i felt there were lots of problems with this show, not least that the chronologies were way out at certain points, and Alvin Hall was implying that some things were happening concurrently, when they clearly weren't.

Nothing new there. The nicest part was maybe Wozniak riding a Segway along a cliff. But for the rest... if you know Apple's history a bit, and have followed the MS news, you haven't missed much.
It's always a kick to see Jobs' rise to superstardom though. That guy is something else.
I guess that when asking the question 'who is the most powerful computer mogul?' it can only really be Gatesie.
Still, I thought it was done reasonably well. And Alvin Hall acknowledged as often as he could that it has been Steve Jobs that has been the innovator along the way.
It is always nice to see Woz talk about stuff too.

I guess if it was 'who is the most influential', the result might have been different.

Indeed.
Gates just crushes everything that gets in the way or is a threat to M$ business, at least Apple tries to innovate (but, of course isn't too proud to buy people when they need to).
It wasn't too bad a programme, but I wouldn't go to too much effort to watch. A bit thin and lightweight, with too many gaps to make a coherent story
In 40 mins, it gets through some not bad stuff on the early days, has some relatively short but interesting interviews (they dug up Sculley from somewhere), and comes down to a main thrust of 'Gates the salesman' vs 'Jobs the visionary'.
Then again, the more detailed ins and outs of the computer industry might have been a bit dull for mainstream viewers (despite BBC2 aiming to be a bit more highbrow).
Although the presenter is a bit annoying
[Did anyone see a documentary series a few years ago that had a full hour devoted to Apple. Something like 'Revenge of the geeks' (or something that resembled a title of a dodgy movie about nerds I've managed to avoid). I seem to recall that it was quite a good history of the rise/struggles/resurgence of Apple. ]
Next week the series is Tiger Woods vs David Beckham. Although Woods is probably the more 'powerful' individual figure, Beckham is a top figure in a more 'powerful' game. (using power in the vaguest possible way)

Does anyone use ffmpeg? I've used it once or twice and the image is very interpolated, any way to solve this?
Also, I have no web hosting space, so this file is most likely to be transferred over bit torrent.
j.
But I missed the first 10mins which was all about Apple&Jobs in the beginning.
Gutted!
Anyone got it on tape?

Ok I should have a download of the programme available tomorrow. Having a few problems at the moment.
I suggest you use bittorrent to take the load off your machine.

Will do.

So Gates won. Why, except for the obvious succcess of MS and failure of Apple?
A brief summery is now on the BBC web site, where you can post comments
