Help iMac Superdrive won't spit out CD

My new iMac won't spit out the CD. I've tried eject and restarting while holding down the mouse button, and nothing seems to work. It works fine with other CD's but it's eaten this one and it won't come out. Every few seconds, it spins up as if it's about to access it, but then theres an abrupt noise and then it spins back down. Though my computer still works, the CD doesn't show up on the desktop, and the noises are annoying. And I need my drive back. What should I do? Is there a way to force open the drive?

Try using diskcopy to eject it.

How do I eject with Disk Copy? There doesn't seem to be any option to.

When I open DVD Player, it says that it doesn't even recognize a DVD drive. Neither does iTunes recognize a burner since the CD's been stuck.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

Sorry, I meant disk utility. select the disk in question and then go to options and drag down to eject....or do a "command e" to eject. Hope this helps.

I think he's saying that the CD doesn't show up on the computer.

Can you do the 'paper clip' thing to eject it manually? Is there a little hole near the drive to eject it at all?

You're right, it doesn't show up at all. That's what I was wondering, whether there was a paperclip hole to force the drive open, because I can't seem to find one.

not at home, so i can't check...but i'm pretty sure there is NO paperclip hole....have you called apple tech....you get free phone support for 90 days...i would take advantage of that...and better sooner than later...not too many people have the new iMac yet...the phones are gonna get busyier as more are shipped and things like this happen....g

Take your new overpriced imac and go get your money back, then go out and buy yourself a Dell! Then put the difference in price in your pocket! Can you imagine paying that much money for that overpriced novilty item and not have the piece of junk work!!!!

Take it back to the store where you bought it and throw it through the window!

rbald, most trolls have the dignity to not lower themselves to a dell, in fact many trolls build their own pc's, maybe you should try that... at least to drag you away from this board for a while...

A Dell with similar features costs over $300 more! Sorry you had problems with the drive, almost sounds like you didn't seat the CD firmly in place. I'm sure you'll get it fixed. As an early adopter these things sometimes happen.

Can you hold down the F12 key? This works on my iBook. Don't know about the new iMac.

hey troll, why don't you take all the money you've saved buying a dell and use it to get your head surgically removed from your ass?

See you people can't build a mac! You have to buy it! The PC masses can build their own computers you guys can't build your own Macs! You have to take what Jobs gives ya!!!!

So instead of getting a crap computer you get to waste your time building a crap computer? That sounds like fun. You still have to use what Billy Gates gives you fool.

As far as the computer problem I'd call Apple. It's possible you just placed the CD in the wrong way. I've gotten CDs stuck in my stereo before so it can happen. Good luck.

Your CD will show up under a Finder window. Once you open a new Finder window (by clicking on the "Mac face" icon in the Dock), you will see your hard drive listed and anything like removable media, such as CD's. Click on your CD (that's seemingly stuck in your SuperDrive) to highlight it, then go up to "File" on the menu bar on top of your desktop...then scroll down to Eject...and Voila...out pops your CD!!! If you really want your CD's to show up on the Desktop, then click the bold face Finder on the menu bar and click on Preferences. There's an option to check the items that you want to show up on your Desktop, like CD's. With that option you can also click on the CD icon on your desktop and drag it towards the Trash and the trash can will change to an Eject icon and eject your CD. Good-luck! :-)

A valid point, but one which we have all thought about. We would rather have a superior OS than build our own computer and deal with the monopolistic M$.

    Why are you here?

Hope your iMac problem resolves. placing a cd in the tray wrong is nasty business, I picture it getting jammed in some gear and snapping into piece *shudders*

as for macs, yes Macos is the superior Os, and taking pre-built computers which cost a bit more(for the most part) is a small price to pay to get to use macos, I seriously would not use windows on my main machine even if it was a pimped out athlon based system with a huge HD loads of RAM etc etc etc
