Just crap for what I saw. I should mention and come clean with the fact that I haven't seen Spider-Man 1 (I've seen portions of it but that doesn't count).
actually, i think the cartoon series was in the 60's, but got heavy syndication again in the 70's (though i might be wrong...). either way, some of those cg fight scenes and spidey's acrobatics look like they're gonna take your breath away.
and i am fully confident that sam raimi will do justice to any spidey flick he's put in charge of.
I'm more excited about Hellboy, but this look good too.
HELLBOY SPOILERS BELOW
I had high hopes for Hellboy, as seen in tihs thread, but I came away with mixed feelings. Better than your average comic book flick for sure, but that's not saying a whole lot.
Out of all the comic book movies made since the 90s, I'd have to say the first Keaton Batman was the best. I'll give high ratings to Spider-Man too. The two X-Men movies didn't really do a whole lot for me.
My problem with Hellboy is mostly with the adapted screenplay and editing. Several characters were introduced that virtually disappeared. Agent Clay? They said he probably wasn't going to live through the night, but that's as far as they go. That's a shitty way to dispose of a character that Hellboy seemed pretty fond of. Abe Sapien? He gets cut by Samael and then his character is ignored from then on. The bald agency head honcho gets left in a room with Kroenen's crushed body and that's the last we see of him. Stuff like that really drives me bonkers.
It's not just leaving the audience hanging with characters either. After Liz flames all the Samaels, they cut to John lying unconscious on the floor, and presumably Liz and Hellboy are knocked out too. But what the hell, isn't Hellboy immune to fire? Liz is immune to her own pyrokinesis, isn't she?
Fighting Samael was nifty the first time. The second time in the sewers was okay too... After they venture to Russia and fight again for the umpteenth time, that stuff gets boring really fast.
i don't understand, is Spiderman really "that good" \
First of all, I'm concerned about your mood swings...
I have no idea if Spiderman is a "good movie" in the sense that it would be enjoyable to the non-Spiderman fan.
For me, it did a wonderful job of capturing the feel of the comic books. I think Sam Rami has a knack for the visuals and kinetics of this sort of material-- he takes it seriously enough to care about, but not so seriously that the plot is dragged down by the "interiority" of the characters.
Plus, Spidey is just an inherently appealing character.
okay, i guess i am the only one here who is more excited about the movie than pissy about its teaser/trailer.
I have a copy of the original Spider-Man WTC trailer. Still get goosebumps watching it. Kinda out of it right now...wouldn't Apple's QT Trailer page have the new one now too?...

If you grew up in the 60's reading the comic, yes. To me he is the definitive super hero character. I was always worried as to how anyone could present him and his story onto film. There have been enormous mistakes (the live action TV series...barf). But now with Rami and Chabon I don't see them. Interpreting any thing from one medium to another will have its drawbacks but I think that this representation has been pretty much flawless...the whole fact that NYC playing such a large role in the comic and the films is a big plus. Spider-Man is the reason that I always will love NYC.
eh...wake me up when Spidey battles Venom or Carnage. At least those guys weren't related to Ozcorp.
actually, my money for spider-man 3 will be none other than kraven the hunter. they toyed with updating his character in the online marvel comics, where they gave themselves license to "reboot" the characters and start over. in it, kraven is still the best hunter in the world, and still sees humans as the ultimate prey, but instead constructs a reality-based t.v. show to televise his exploits, and abducts spider-man to a private island for a televised international audience. if i'm not mistaken, j. jonah also helped produce the event for ratings and story for the bugle, so you can see how this might lend itself to a full-length movie.
i certainly wouldn't MIND a venom-based sequel, but i just think the story of the black spidey-suit would have to be changed 99% to make any sense at all...
rok- what needs to be change in teh symbiot saga? i saw no issues there. by far the best time in spiderman comics as well, imho. maybe they will introduce brock in part 2, that would tell you what part 3 will be about. part 4 could have the trial of peter parker. that would be so awesome.
The twin towers were never in the movie. There was a promo piece (can't remember if it was video or poster) that had the twin towers with a spider web between them, and that's what got pulled. But the towers weren't in the film at all and never were.
Correct. The towers were never in the movie; they were in a teaser-trailer for the movie. Some guys are flying around in a helicopter and Spidey goes hopping back and forth. The copter lurches to a stop and the camera pulls back to show it stuck in Spidey's web between the towers.

I've been watching Spidey since the cartoon series in the seventies, and it's nice to see it's finally reached its potential.
But hopefully Spiderman 3 is around the corner.

Definitely super excited. I will be at the midnight showing.

My prediction, Hellboy 2 is much improved.
