The song has some lyrics . . . in a dolefull voice . .

. . . .Im so lonely oh . . . my romeo

followed by a synth going from a Tonic up an octave then tonic then up a seventh etc

Silly absurd request . . . it was somewhat obscure "New Wavish" sounding and got radio play on College stations when Alternative actualy meant alternative . .

any ideas?

I have looked through numerous 80s and New Wave collections to no avail . . . . .

The reason you only have a smidge of memory is because brains don't like to retain the 80's they try to fuzz it out the best they can. Besides with that description it could be anything from that shitty decade.

all I remember is the best thing to come out of the 80's was the 90's.

musically, politically, entertainment.... blah blah blah.

You name it and it was better in the 90's. And other than Apples new machines, and some ok music, the 2000's are really begging for the "teens" to come along.

Saying that the best thing to come out of the 80's was the 90's isn't true, musically anyway. I think that a lot of the music from the 90's turned just as insipid as some of the stuff from the 80's...at least when the 80's sound made a crossover into the 90's, it matured and underwent an evolution...something we can't really say about a lot of the "most important" bands of the 90's.

Don't get me wrongo, it started out great, I still remember a lot of the new 90's music as stuff moved off of alternative college radio stations (Album 88 here in Atlanta) and onto commercial stations...in fact 99X (from the X brand of radio stations) seemed to get its programming directly off the college stations at times.

But honestly, doesn't every Pearl Jam song sound alike after awhile? And I like Pearl Jam. I can say the same thing for the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Blood Sugar Sex Magic was their biggest commercial success, Pepper fans' opinions notwithstanding.

Same thing can be said for a LOT of the bands from the 90's. Smashing Pumkins' "wall of sound" was tremendous on "Siamese Dream", where'd they go? Now Radiohead is still going strong, and Weezer has a private army of fans at their beck and call...but they're already in the tail lights.

To write off 80's music en masse is to throw away bands like the Psychedelic Furs in favor of Brittney. I'm happy liking stuff from both decades without slagging either one!

People who think the 80s sucked for music are just ignoramus whose knowledge of music doesn't go past the top 40.

The 80s started off with one of the greatest albums of all time.

    well dude,

#1 I never listen to top 40 radio in my life.

#2 I am an accompished guitarist who has gained a lot of respect from my peers.

#3 This is america and I am entitled to my opinion no matter what nazi's are holding this country hostage right now.

oh, and your pick for the greatest album ever is definately opinionated, and shows your ignorance of music.

    Have a nice day, Randy

ok, that was a good one but it was very 70's in its style. and in my opinion the best acdc was highway to hell, after back in black I think they went downhill.

oops sorry guys, forgot we can't forge our own opinions here

    Have a pleasant day, Randy

I think that Eugene found a link didn't he?

Randy, this is AppleOutsider (aka Fireside Chat In Disguise), opinons are the lifeblood of this forum. A total dismissal of an era's music is simply ignorant, that's all I'm saying...save your Nazi references for something more important.

Why don't you tell us which bands/albums of the 1980's meet your approval? Or a sampler of the ones that DON'T, maybe we can catch your style.

    No need to get huffy.

Well, for me anyway...I started out the day being huffy in another thread.

The 1980's produced some very innovative sounding groups as well as individual artists.

I will be eternally grateful to Talking Heads,David Byrne, Laurie Anderson, Brian Eno,OMD, Dire Straits and others.

There was a lot of energy in the 80's and you had to have been there to know it.

Wasn't 'Dire Straits' released in '72, and their best (IMO) album COMMUNIQUÉ released in 79 ?

    Edit:

Sorry Aquafire, i'm not trying to sound as a smartass, i was always thinking of Dire Straits as 70s band.

I gave him a link to Google, with a query. I have no idea what the song is, but it's a good starting point.
