Nokia 7600 - I Love it.

I know, it looks unconventional, but once you hold it in your hands, you just know. This is the most comfortable phone design ever.

Bluetooth 1.1, Java, and WCDMA as well as GSM. Finally a phone from Nokia I want. Too bad I don't have the 500 bones I need to get it.

Disappointed that for Nokia's top of the line phone, pictures are still VGA, though.

Yeah, that's a little too weird for me, but I'll be getting the 6600 in a couple of weeks.

I got everyone beat in terms of phone coolness. As you may know, I just put my phone through the wash, so I headed over to eBay and picked up one of these:

Now your all jealous. $35 USD, can't beat it.

As for that Nokia 7600...seriously, what is it?

It's further evidence that Nokia's design team has gone completely off the deep-end.

When I do eventually replace my very plain Nokia 8260, I can assure you that it won't have silly grouped d-pad style buttons or circular arrangements.

I don't even know where to begin though. I hear the Danger Sidekick supports SSH now...It's plain looking, but big. Sony-Ericsson maybe. Something like the newer Handspring Treos?

I agree. I used to love Nokias when they were simple classic designs. Now things have gone waaaay off the deep end. I just understand what the hell they are smoking. There is no logic that I can think of in their designs.

    Follow me here people.

The PDA and Phone segments are converging.

Not everyone who buys a Phone wants a PDA.

But everyone who buys a PDA has a Phone.

The 12 button keypad is standard for phone users, but useless for PDA data entry.

If only someone could modify/upgrade the 12 button keypad to make it usable for PDA users...

    Oh wait...

My point is that if you're going to mess with key placement, it should be for the better - not because your designers have too much time on their hands.

I'm terrified that by the time I need to get another new phone that they will all be color screen, two hour battery life, play video games, and have a subwoffer just for the ring tones. I want a plain phone, regular screen, no camera, long battery life, easy to use. Phones are starting to suck.

    Edit:

I just noticed this...why is this in Digital Hub? I think GD would be more appropriate, but I aint no mod.

I believe the proper distinction for devices of this caliber is the "smartphone", apart from the conventional cellphone, of which there will certainly continue to be plain vanilla models. I think it is all very cool, though! I'm doing some shopping myself.

I think the 7600 is a bit odd looking for my tastes. As far as unapologetic ways to spend gratuitous sums on crazy gizmos, I have an eye caught on the Sony Ericson P900. Anybody have any experience with them to comment how they would compare to the Nokia 7600?

I agree they have totally lost the plot. Some of their recent phones fall into the category of the most ridiculous designs I've every seen. Now a T630, that's a phone.

I can't wait to swap my T610 for the T630! I heard the new display is great. I need to call my T-Mobile rep come to think of it!

I love my 6600! Of course I am biased because I work for Nokia.

I just got one yesterday. I have to say, this phone's a dream to use with OSX! Bluetooth 'just works?', and isync (after hacking it to take the 6600) is great. Been playing with Romeo too - using the phone to control your music is a nice feature.

Any word when T-Mobile will have the T630 (or the Z600) available? I'm ready to switch once they have the newer phones.

The T630 should be available anytime now. My T-Mobile rep said sometime in november, so you should check back some near the end of the month.

Yeah, I'll be getting a phone this year, it looks like. I've been looking around and - as mentioned above - it seems hard to just find a simple, solid normal-looking phone without a bunch of shit all over it and a camera and a color screen and a radar missile launcher and...

    I'd just like A PHONE.

And preferably larger than a pack of matches too, if it's not too much trouble.

    I would, however, like Bluetooth.

Well, I've got a HUGE, HUGE Address Book library (friends, family, co-workers, freelance contacts, etc.), that I figure I could easily transfer/sync to the phone, right? Rather than manually entering it all? Or do I have it all backwards and wrong? I thought that was one of the things that could be done (and if I lose the phone, all this info is here safe on my PowerBook).

    No, you have it right.

Bluetooth is a wonderful thing for those of us with huge list of numbers and contacts that need to be transfered.

True, but it's also handy to use bluetooth to transfer everything into Address Book.

No tedious typing is a good thing.

Plus, how cool is it when your phone rings and Address Book pops up a window showing you who's calling and allows you to answer the call or send it to voicemail.
