Hitler and GOP Hypocrisy

Today's New York Post compares Howard Dean campaigning techniques to those "techniques employed by Hitler's Brownshirts. Had Goebbels enjoyed access to the internet, he would have used the same swarm tactics as Dean's Flannelshirts."

So, it appears that liberals aren't the only one's prone to playing the Hitler card, eh? Yet, that won't stop Ed Gillespie from instantly appearing on Inside Politics and Hardball today to cry about independent filmmakers while his GOP allies use the same exact rhetoric against Dean.

The article further goes on to further spread outright distortions and lies about Howard Dean's statements regarding Hussein, bin Laden and his records--not to mention the entire article is a hit piece. Anyone who actually "reads" understands that we are NOT safer now that Saddam is behind bars (evidenced by continuing attacks on our troops and the elevated terror alert), that a President needs to honor "the rule of law" when prosecuting criminals, and that a judge should make the ultimate decision regarding Dean's records.

Yea I know I am going to be flamed for this but the truth is Bush is a horrible liar. He attacked Iraq for no reason and made up tons of BS in order to do so. Much like hitler did when he wanted to kill all the jews. I wouldn't say Bush=Hitler but they are more alike than some would want to believe. I can't wait to get rid of him. And by the way, I am not a democrat. I am a conservative.

    ha!

I got to ruin it before he did!

(is "ruining it" what you call it when somebody disagrees with you in a thread?)

ANYONE who pulls out the Nazi card had best be prepared to draw fire, it's the A-Bomb of political debate.

Of course Gillespie will be on TV tonight to complain about the contest entry.

Does anybody here honestly conisder either bush or dean or any other politician in the US remotely close to Hitler? If you do how can you possibly think that? The shit Hitler did is INDESCRIBABLE. Yes there are some similarities between hitler and every politician in a none horrific way. Hitler is a politician so by default he'll have some similarities to other politicians. Hell Ghandi went on a hunger strike, so did HItler. Does that mean they're "similar" of course not. Comparing anybody to Hitler is the most terrible thing you could possibly do to ANYBODY.

I mildly agree. But, it appears Hitler comparisons are free game in today's politics. That said, it should be noted that the GOP crybabies are getting red in the face over an independent filmmaker submission in an Online contest while the GOP article mentioned above is PRINTED IN A NEWSPAPER AND APPROVED BY EDITORS (credit goes to Chewie for this liine).

I think the only reason people don't like hitler is cause they are jealous of his moustache... lol

FWIW, I don't think it a fair comparison and I feel it a low blow. Ed should have let the Democrats handle their own business with regard to the Deaniacs and other candidates.

Ed should apologize for the comparison. I hope he does and I think others ought to condemn the comparison.

He gets around it a bit with this passage....

    Quote:

Dean wants to muzzle his Democratic competitors, too. He believes the Democratic National Committee should shut them up. His followers try to intimidate other presidential aspirants by surrounding the cars delivering them to their rallies and chanting to drown out their speech. Of course, Dean denies any foreknowledge or blame.

These are the techniques employed by Hitler's Brownshirts. Had Goebbels enjoyed access to the internet, he would have used the same swarm tactics as Dean's Flannelshirts.

So he doesn't say Dean is Hitler, just that he endorses the tactics of his followers that resemble Hitler's Brownshirts.

But even if the association is unclear, the intent of the message is not. So it is wrong. I wish others here would be so honest with regard to their own side on these matters. (It's not the same URL, they ran it but didn't create it, etc.)

Trumpt. The person(s) who created the Hitler contest submission were wrong.

The voters at bushin30seconds were RIGHT...

the ad went nowhere in the contest...

Moveon.org did not endorse the ad... it never was viewable anywhere but at the contest site... that's it,

    end of story.

1500 submissions. And I'm sure most weren't all that good... and many sucked. The same would happen if the Free Republic ran an ad contest.

the chairman of the RNC has been on tv all day bitching about and lying about moveon.org running ads comparing Bush to HItler... which never happened.

Yet... an editorial runs in the Republican mouthpeice the NY POST and they don't say a word about it.

    Bravo.

While I don't hold Moveon responsible for the filmmaker submission, I do hold the judgment of the filmmaker's suspect and I am proud of my fellow liberals for rejecting that submission.

I pray that Republicans will do the same when the "Osama" ads start airing next spring (speculation, but I'd put money on it).

It just came out today. Not that I expect the chairman of the RNC to say anything about it tomorrow.

I assume that because you think the NY Post is the "Republican mouthpeice" then I can assume that the NYT is leftist dreck? Or are you a hypocrite too?

But as you prove with your own statement it can legitimately be done. Hitler and Ghandi, there it is. It's a valid comparison and anyone that fights it is being blind (unless of course Hitler never did go on a hunger strike, but hopefully you get my point.)

Hitler was a politician for a long time before he started gassing people. During that time he was a politician that has plenty of similarities to modern day people. There's no reason to pretend otherwise.

Anyone who wants to make the world 'Hitler' off limits in a political debate is causing more problems than he/she is helping. Hitler was essentially a fascist. My long locked thread was about some similarities between modern day republicans and fascists.

I would say that SOME of the editorials at the NYT are left of center.

But are Safire, Freidman and Brooks left of center? Nope.

You do know that the NY POST is owned by Rupert Murdoch right?
