Let's start a GarageBand
Ok, so I can see how excited people are about GarageBand, so maybe it's time to start thinking about creating an AI band. I assume that files will be able to be saved and transfered to other computers so all we would really need is a place to host the files. I guess it would be a good idea to mention if you play any instruments, have any experience producing music, or can sing. I would also venture a guess that people are going to want to move the band in different directions so it might be a good idea to use this a clearing house to find other people that want to play the same kind of music.
I can play trumpet, but I'm working on getting better. I can't sing and have no experience producing music. I don't really care what type of music, I just think it would be cool to be a part of.
So any takers?

Justified Arrogance
Haha I love it.
Don't you think several thousand members would be too much?

It won't work. Someone will create lyrics along the lines of: "And while I'm watching the world go to pot, you can only hold that capitalistic pig (chorus: P-I-G) Geeeeoooorggggeeeee Dubyaaaaaaaaa responnnnsible for all TIME!!!!" And then the guy who does the bass loops turns out to be a Republican... you can see how the chain will go. If ya had started the band in General Discussion, it might have had a change, but it will die here in Apple"fireside"Outsider.
Shit, I didn't even think about that. Please get it out of here!! It's about the music man, don't let your conformist mentality keep us down.

I bet you're wrong.
There could MANY ai bands/collaborations...
I'm good with beats and basslines. Synth generated ones anyway.

only if i can call the tambourine.
I got the triangle and wood block!
i've got the cow bell too.
anyone know where I can find a list?
Anyway...I call guitar, banjo (I bet you've never met anyone who can actually play the banjo), I wanted bass too but chu_bakka seems to have already called it...I think I should get extra points for actually being able to play the bass, mandolin (I bet you've never met anyone who can play the mandolin either), and last but not least, I'm all over the 12 string guitar too. Heck, if I learn to play the drums I'm a one man garage band.
My point is that the collaboration I might want to have might not be what someone else wants to do.
Not really necassary to call anything.
what genre are we going to be doing?
(/me hopes someone says h. s. geek band. those are totally rad.)

I wouldn't worry about that, Republicans have no sense of rhythm or melody. In fact, I'm not even sure if they like music

Well I'm sure there's a wide range of tastes...

That's what I was thinking...or there could just be a central repository where loops, beats, vocal tracks, interesting noises and guitar/banjo/cow bell solos are all stored. AIers who want to access the sounds agree to put back anything they create with them for other AIers to use (like open source music). If direct collabs spring up between two or more members, even better. It might even lead to some interesting cross-pollination of genres (2Step Bluegrass anyone?)
We could call it "Chili".
