iMac G5 confirmation or Macworld screw-up?

Posted:
in Future Apple Hardware edited January 2014
Having registered my new iBook G4 (which is awesome btw) I was asked if I'd like to sign up for a free 1-year subscription to Macworld magazine. Naturally I said yes and as I was signing up they asked what my most recent Apple purchase was. As pictured below the iMac G5 was at top of the pulldown menu.

Even as I present this question I think I fall into the "Somebody at Macworld screwed up." camp. Especially given the "server G4" instead of "XServe," etc, but since there is a possibility that they know something we don't, I couldn't resist posting my screen-cap. Talk amongst yourselves...

Yes, simultaneous release is best for all involved. When one releases before the other it almost always leads to emotional problems as the unreleased feels neglected... Are we still talking about computers?

Definitely. It also feels really good when you can.. err... wait. You're talking about computers, aren't you.

    Nevermind.

does that mean that they both have to put their "extra" sigs in their actual sig?

Pish-posh. It's clearly iMac G5 confirmation. Do you see Powerbook G5 on the list? Nope.

Why? I am not offended or annoyed by your sig.

There is a way to get rid of the smokey guys, just edit the CSS File that Safari uses (or OmniWeb). I know Synotic did it, what a smart chap he is!

Neba, since you are the only one that uses them, when you lose brad will remove them from the server so you can never use them again!

My best guess for Apple's updating strategy:

    In this order:

    first the faster G5's (soon)

    then the PowerBook G5

and third the iMac G5 (mid 2004?)

They make a lot more money with the first two.

as I recalled, didnt the IMAC have the G4 before the powerbooks?

Nope. Powerbook G4 was intro-ed Jan of 2001, and the iMac in Jan of 2002.

    Apple-History.com is a good source

As an aside, repeat after me: It's iMac. Not all caps. </petpeeve>

I would have to agree with aleph, despite his ZANY NAME!, he has a good prediction timeline, I'd agree with. Maybe not the dates exactly, but the order mos-def.

I would understand if it went iMac G5 and then iMac G3 or something like that. Then we would could certainly understand that I was possibly a typo. But it looks intentional. Seems like another "premature specification" to me.

eh, maybe...it is encouraging that apple got 2 G5s into a 1U xServe...but a powerbook is thinning and lighter and has less fans and sits on your lap....maybe if they go 1.0 gig G5...maybe

but it would take nothing to get a 1.6 or 1.8 g G5 into the current iMac

apple will decide soon and we shall see

PM speedbumps in a week or two

then iMac or PB updates around feb 1

i go for iMacs, no reason not to

PB could come then also, but i would think the chip would only be a 1.2 G5 at most, likely a 1.0...still nicer than a g4 chip
