Well, to be fair, the beta did last a LONG time, and it worked so well(no glaring BETA! issues) that I'm sure he just forgot he was using a beta, I know that was the case with a couple people I know, they didn't spend everyday "oh, this is going to run out in X days, oh no!"
at least you can revert it to regular iChat, which still works great for 90% of your IM needs.
I'd say, if iChat AV is that important to you, just buy it, it's only $30 and all.

Yes that's what he said he wants to do... I'm not 100% sure on how to do this but I suspect the best way is to use that program that I can't think of the name of right now (sorry) to extract only selected files from the OS X install CD. So you would just pull iChat off your Jaguar install CD's.

oh right, so apple want to get people hooked to iChat AV so you upgraded, like a demo. I thought you were implying all betas expired. \
Actually, most betas DO have an expiration date to get you to buy the release version. Also, most companies (MS excluded) don't want buggy pre-release versions of their software tarnishing their reputation.

Um, most betas do expire.
I can name several off the top of my head including iChat AV, Mac OS X itself, NetMonitor, Snapz Pro X... Any app that doesn't expire is probably already a freeware/open source one. For the latter it doesn't matter as much that people are using old versions because the developer isn't losing out on revenue and doesn't care if people are using old versions.
Apple told you from day one that iChat AV would expire. There's no reason to act surprised about it. If you didn't read Apple's web site or the license agreement or any of the hundreds of web pages across the Internet talking about iChat AV before you installed it, that's your own fault.

Pacifist.
iChatAV has a menu item for 'Revert to iChat 1.0'. If it's not giving you that option, and just quitting, that's silly.
