messiah, ANY computer will immediately suffer its largest drop in retail value as soon as its box is opened, because someone will ALWAYS pay more for a systems that has never been opened, even if it's older. especially on ebay, because you can never tell, no matter how good the seller's rating is or how many pix they have up, what condition the computer is truly in. edit: sure, the relase of new G5's, and the imminence of even newer ones probably didn't help its value any, but i think recent announcements were likely only a small part of the decline in market value...for now.

but the drop plateaus pretty quick, too. i am betting that in a year, you will be very surprised at how much you can get for a year-old computer. or in two years or three, when they are still retaining a huge margin over their pc counterparts. plus, a g5 will retain resale value because it will be easier for potential buyers to upgrade parts.

contrast to when i was trying to sell my imac dv 400... it was just too difficult and expensive for people to justify buying it versus a new model, and they could never upgrade the video.

all in all, don't be so hard on it. also, look at it this way: if you're not pushing it hard, it'll live up to your needs for a VERY long time.

Keep the display, sell the G5, and get a second-hand G4 tower (at least DA or SlowSilver?)

    I am just kidding

Well the decision is up to you
