I saw this on TeeVee a while ago. As long as a bunch of meatheads confine this to the areas where normal traffic doesn't go I couldn't care less.

This is for a bunch of rich kids who don't have to buy their own tires. I could never do this, I would go through tires way too fast, and I can't afford that. I don't care who does it, but it's not for me and my '94 Dodge caravan. Oh yea, did I mention I drive a mini-van?

What the hell, it has a name, and they're writing articles about it like it's a sport?

This is how I drove my car every day when I was in high school.

The article's wrong when it says drifting is never the fastest way around a corner. As far as I know, when the conditions are slippery enough, even though grip driving would theoretically get you around the corner fastest, in reality you can often control the car better if you break the grip before corner. You see drifting in WRC, and those guys care about speed, no?

DMBand0026: the tyres aren't hit very hard if you practice on ice, snow, and in the rain. And on a closed track it's possible to change to tyres that have too much wear to be street legal.

bauman: it's not just for RWD drivers, 4WD guys can drift too You just need more speed to do it.

A cool skill? Are you planning on running from the cops at 100 mph at some point? When the hell might you ever, ever need this skill?

I would really like it if the most dangerous group of drivers on the roads in America (i.e. teens) would focus on the basics: paying bloody attention to what's going on around them on the road, developing a reasonable respect for the very real danger they are in every single time they get into a car, and not killing themselves or anyone else around them.

    Harumph.

I would also like it if no one under the age of 22 were allowed to have a car nicer than my 1992 Toyota Corolla.

    Cheers
