Does Apple actually read these new crash reports?

Fonts can be a problem. But more than anything I blame application developers. I mean c'mon, I can get Flash MX to crash consistantly on (in both 10.2 and 10.3) by simply testing a movie clicking out of the app, watch my pallettes disappear, then go back in an loading up a panel set. Poof. Bye bye Flash MX. That problem has been there forever, do they fix it? No.

i guess my post was more to say that many people ignore the fact that fonts can be a potential culprit. to recurring problems. i'll tell you, when we actually spent 5 grand on a new font library cd for our last job, we even got mac os 9 to run perfectly stable.

I can't believe so many people are witnessing such instability. I almost never experience application crashes, except for Flash, which has always sucked. I think everyone having such problems could probably benefit from some basic system maintenence. Get yourself a copy of TinkerTool System and run system maintence scripts, repair permissions, etc. I'm sure there are free apps that do the same thing, though not as pretty as TinkerTool System. At the very least, repair permissions using Disc Utility every few weeks or so.

I spoke way too soon about 10.3.3 improvements. The system is still really sluggish compared with 10.3.1. It sometimes assigns the wrong icons (for instance, a dmg mounted and became an iPod. I have had persistent crashes with Mail, Safari, iPhoto and iMovie. Windows that I have the Finder set to display in "list" view will constantly revert to icon view even after I have changed it back. I find myself having to re-install HP printer drivers as everytime I disconnect and then reconnect my HP 7110 AIO printer via USB it tells me there are no drivers (even though the drivers are installed). With only Safari and Mail running, I get a spinning beach ball for at least five seconds when trying to add a new bookmark in Safari and a much longer beachball (up to 15 or 20 seconds) when trying to access the fast-user switching menu. It would also be nice, for once, to install an OS upgrade and not have to re-enter the serial numbers for Final Cut and its companion applications.

Nope things like APPLE DVD Player and APPLE iChat, iPhoto, iTunes, etc crash a ton in Panther. At first they crashed every few minutes, no kidding. For some reason over time my 10.3.2 has gotten more stable. I don't know why. But if I push it, even with things like DVD Player, it will crash. No it's not hardware. It's only Apple installed RAM on a relatively new PBG4 12".

Why should fonts be able to crash apps? That doesn't seem like good engineering. Even so..the only fonts I have that are additional are the ones from Office. That shouldn't cause a problem I wouldn't think. It's Office 10.1.2.

Also AIM also hangs on quit a lot now, never did that before.

Yeah I know what you mean, I beat the hell out of this machine (dual 533 1GB of RAM) It runs as a full time server, PHP-Mysql, and I regularly running out of RAM and dipping into swap space, I hack the hell out of the system and this thing runs like a tank.

I never ever run cron jobs, or any other kind of system maintenance. I also leave my machine on all the time as it functions as a server, I probably restart it some where between once a week to once a month. (Updates that require restarts).

Personally I could not ask for more out of this machine, The only Apps that ever crash on me are the really crappy ones that I expect that kind of nonsense from, or other problematic apps, Like OW 4.5 will crash like every 5 minutes, but I think that happens for everyone using OW 4.5...

I had that with 10.2.6! Man that config was a tank. Panther seems to be settling down on me but still gets flaky. Sometimes menu commands won't work with keyboard shortcuts, that's my pet peeve, because, what the deuce!? It's just so weird and random.
