Gates Foundation grant helps fund effort to eradicate waterborne parasite that causes painful illness
Snippets:
Lelmi Malik, a 32-year-old mother of three, hobbled forward to get in line for extraction of five of the parasitic worms that had made her their host for the past year as they ate their way through her body. The worms dangled like strands of spaghetti from the openings they created in her legs.
...
The guinea worm eradication project, led by the Carter Center's Global 2000 international health program, recently received part of a $28.5 million grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation -- money intended to finally achieve elimination of this disease, dracunculiasis, in humans.
I've heard that in London, penis fly syndrome is primarily transmitted via bicycle seats which are infested by malicious thieves, with training in biological agents of course, who then sell them back to their unsuspecting owners at the local bazaar. The worms burrow through your pants and it takes a few years before they gestate but it never fails to result in penis fly syndrome. Just something to think about.
?It hurts, it hurts!? 4 year-old Bolaji Aluko cries as Dr. Edungbola pulls the final inches of a 5-foot parasitic worm from her thigh. Blood runs down her leg into a large bucket full of blood and discarded guinea worms. It has been a long day of parasite removal for the doctors, and the bucket is almost full.
Satisfied that all 7 of her spaghetti-like friends have been removed, she rinses the bucket once, and then fills it with drinking water.
You know, I always hear that Spanish Fly really got the ladies going but....ewwwwwww
Can you imagine a man with such an ailment ejaculating flies and their larvae into some woman's vagina? (...and let's NOT, even for the briefest moment, imagine that [fluffy clouds fluffy clouds fluffy clouds]...oh god...too late... ARRRRGH!!) OMG OMG OMG!!!!!
Don't flies need air to breathe? What do they do - hold their breath while they scramble their way down the penis toward that 'light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel'?????
I apologize for laughing; but it's just all too horrible to contemplate.
