EDIT: Maybe the astrology discussion should be split off from this one.
Actually, I can kind of tie the two subjects together... While it's not the worst thing I've done, I took money recently to help someone write astrology software. It bothers me a bit -- it feels like ill-gotten gains, like I sold out.
My girlfriend and I were going on vacation over Spring Break, and one of her female friends went along with us. My girlfriend and I were very heavily romantically involved - talking about marriage and all that. Well, it turns out her friend was really hitting on me. I should have resisted, but she was coming on awfully strong. We were out of the country, on the beach, I was drunk, what could I do?
So we went back to her van. After 15 minutes or so, my girlfriend comes up to the van and looks in and catches us in the act. The thing is, I didn't even know she had caught us. The girl I was with apparently just closed her eyes and went on with the business at hand without saying anything. My girlfriend told me later that she had seen us. She broke up with me, and I was devastated.
My girlfriend ended up committing suicide. I also shot myself in the head in a suicide attempt, and I've been blind, unable to speak without a slur, and on anti-depressants since then.
I've never found out what happened to that girl, but she really ruined our lives.

Hah that would be like me creating a mormon web site.
BRussell, you were lying about that? Who would lie about such a thing? Jeez.
Don't worry. If he is lying we will just go redress the differences between reality and his post. Then post it to this thread as the worst thing we have ever done.
I thought it would be very obvious that it was supposed to be the "true story" of Carol A's story. I guess it wasn't obvious enough. Sorry if I offended anyone. Shawn got it anyway.

My roommate and I decided to drive to the beaches of Mexico for spring break (years ago).
A friend of hers ended up coming along (a guy).
They weren't 'involved' or anything. They were basically 'friends'.
But a huge, mutual attraction sprang up between this guy (Tom) and me. There was just no denying its intensity.
So one night, the van was parked on the beach near a big campfire, where other people had gathered too. Tom and I left the fire and went into the van. We were wrapped in each others arms in the back of the van, right next to a round window. The moonlight was streaming in. I opened my eyes, looking over his shoulder, and there was my roommate's face in the window, looking right at me/us. There was nothing I could do but close my eyes. It was awful.
The worst part is that I know I would do it again if the 'exact same' circumstances happened again. Though they weren't involved, they were friends, and I shouldn't have let myself get swept away. I didn't flirt with him or anything; but the attraction was mutual and instantaneous, like a fire. I don't know how else to explain it.

Well, when I first read your post I thought it was hilarious, but when people started worrying about you, I thought, "Shit! What if it's true? And I congratulate him for being funny? That would be, like, such a major faux pas!"
Are you sad because it didn´t happen to him? Or are yoy said because you were laughing at the story? If its the last then you should be happy you are said.

Shawn 'got it' because he knows something about you.
I don't know you; so I believed what you said. It never even crossed my mind that what you said was a hoax.
The similarities in the stories seemed incredible, but I didn't doubt your veracity. I felt terrible after reading what you said. I had to go downstairs and get a stiff drink, because here I was happily enjoying a thread, and then suddenly here was a person with horrible problems whose life had been ruined.
I wish to point out that you have made me feel like a fool, with my credulity and my offering of sympathy and regret - not a pleasant feeling. I'm glad some people got a good laugh from your prank. I hope you enjoyed yourself.
The problem is that I know of someone who tried to kill himself with a gun to the temple. He shot out his right eye. So that's partly why I believed you. And I do think blind people have ways to use computers, so I didn't doubt that part of it either.

If what Luca says is true, then yes. Of course astrology is also based around a geocentric universe with 6 planetary bodies. It's all crap.

Nah. He's a Cognitive Psychologist who has done some research on subliminal messages. I'm pretty sure you need your eyesight for that?

Ever heard of audible sublimimal messages?

If he did and was aware of them, would they truly be subliminal?
