Death to Beige!!!!!

I won't miss it. I will not buy another ugly Beige Box.

Stainless Monitors! Finally a Monitor that matches my Viking Kitchen(just kidding ...I wish).

This makes me wonder if Apple did the right thing by making the imac White. In an attempt to move on again...has Apple prematurely left the Silver color? I think so. White is not as neutral as Silver and it's prone to showing dirt. Bring on the Siver IMac!!

How about a platinum plated, diamond encrusted iMac that would be displayed at big events? Kind of like that Victoria's Secret bra with the diamonds in it, only more useful.

I think the best color scheme for an iMac would be "Invisible" - all you see is some keys hovering half an inch above the desk and the monitor floating there in space.

Welllll I've always looked at Gaggenau as Pretty stuff but I wasn't sure how functional it is. That's the case with all hi end stuff.

The neck (or arm) of the new iMac is CHROME. You can't get much more silver that that. Plus the back and sides of the iPod are shiny stainless steel.

Personally, I've come to dig quite a bit the whole white/clear/silver look of the iMac, iBook and iPod.

Especially with the new white Pro Keyboard and Mouse, this new iMac just looks great. I thought it did anyway, but a co-worker of mine just bought a new iMac for his office and when I pass his office, I see the iMac sorta from a 3/4 side/back view (which I never see mine from) and I spent much of today walking by his office and going in to move his screen around when he wasn't looking.

Everytime I did this, it made me very happy to know that I had one of my own waiting for me when I got home from work.

I like how the pro stuff is silver and the iStuff is white. A nice little distinction. Subtle (compared to strawberry, Blue Dalmation and so forth), but just enough to set them apart.

My ONLY regret/quibble: that the new LCD iMac is more of a matte/frosted finish, as opposed to that really snazzy glossy shine of the iBook.

I know I like the matte/soft finish of the iMac vs. the hypothetical iPod look on the iMac. It just wouldn't work. It would really remind me of a plasitc lampshade then...or some other cheap furniture from the 70s.

    It would look cold.

Someone in another thread mentioned the possibility of silver (I guess 'quicksilver') color scheme SE versions of iMacs and iBooks. Kinda like DVSE graphite iBook and SE graphite iMacs of early last year. I think post was BS, but it is in keeping with recent Apple history, and, I think a silver version of both the iBook and the iMac would look quite nice. But white looks very good too!

Funny thing though is that 3 years from now, we might look back and say "white? what were they thinking?"

Just like how we now look back at the original coloured iMacs and iBooks.

But certain designs and colours such as colours such as black, white, grey and silver by their very neutral appearance are classic and less likely to fall out of fashion as quick.

No, white is white. White is what paper cups are. White is what my room walls are. White is what my table is. White fits everything. So does beige. The only problem with beige is that it's not as stark as white...and beige comes in different shades. What I hatre about my monitor is that it is beige, but it is a different beige than the beige on my printer.

As for silver...Gateway has gone silver across all its product lines. Good for them. They have also blatantly borrowed from the design of the Titanium PowerBook...shame on them.

I am not too keen on the white look now, but I guess at least it doesn't show up the dirt (so easily) . . . Talk about impractical...

It's all a matter of personal tastes and opinion, but I personally can not stand this 'white' thing Apple is going through (I do however love the chrome Apple logo). For me, the white is just too puffy and fluffy. It's not a sexy look, it's more 'cute' IMHO. I would like an iPod - but not at it's current design. Personally I like a black, granite and or silver look for a computer. I am glad that the PC industry has gone in that direction.

Gateway was in dire need for a makeover and I am glad they went with silver. Also, just because other computers are getting redesigned and are silver, doesn't mean it's an Apple rip off! Are all silver laptops - PowerBook rip-offs? Please! If that's the case, then I guess all black laptops are rip-offs of the competition's designs as well?

The frosted white of the new iMac says "its OK to touch me, Im friendly!" just like the clear plastic halo around the LCD screen.

A shiny white case says " Dont touch! You'll have fingerprints and dirt all over me!".

Its all about the way we interact with our machines, they need to look user friendly as well as operate in a user friendly way.

The chrome arm and apple logo add an element of class.
