Who else is one? It is past 6:30 AM here and I am still up \

Someone needs to tell me what normal hours people function at, cuz apparently I dont. Yea, I think I'm off now...

Me. Well, today I have an excuse. I napped for a few hours from about 7:30 to 10:30 yesterday evening. Then I went down to dinner around 11 with my friends, and we stayed there until about 12:30. I haven't gotten tired since, so I will just stay up I guess.

More people think themselves insomniacs than actually would be diagnosed as such. Try drinking less caffeinated beverages and distancing yourself from the computer no less than 8 hours before you have to wake up to do whatever it is you do with your life.

Of course, I don't mean to demean anyone. If you are truly an insomniac, get some medication or kill yourself.

I am. I sleep in binges. I'll go through a few days where 4-5 hours is enough, then a few when I could sleep 10+

    Probably not good.

I try sleeping in binges when my schedule gets out-of-whack. (I apparently operate on a very slightly elongated day cycle, which means I stay up a bit later and later every night.) However, I tend to miss a lot of my classes when this happens.

i read something the other day about different people having different sleep needs. i usually sleep 4 to 5 hours a night and that's all i need. most people i know need more. i don't think that makes me an insomniac though.

that's probably true. lucky you! as long as you function well aren't contantly tired, you probably aren't an insomniac.

I've been having trouble sleeping because of stress. A coworker asked if I was able to "turn it off" which of course I can't. So she suggested having a drink with dinner. Rather than do that I'm downing one of my 30oz home brews right now.

    I'll sleep when I'm dead.

I normally only get 4-6 hours a night, and lately a lot less. I just had a 'marathon' night of sleep after a long weekend with a total of 10 hours. My 'marathon' was 9 hours. Very long by my standards.

Personally, I'm a nite owl. I don't need daylight, although I do need money and a job. So, I've learned to squeeze more out of less sleep.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's bad if you stay up until 6 AM and then sleep until noon, unless your job necessitates it. Make sure you wake up early every day even if you don't like it.

im an owl too. mostly changing the time zone gets me nuts, especially americas > europe direction. teh other needs not even one day to adjust.

i feel fine with current sleep, but it was really horrible yesterday about falling asleep. coffee, coffee, coffee. umh. i think i need some candy or some cofeine pills to keep me awake at emergencies. im glad they dont sell stackers here.

Stay up a bit later and later, 'dorf? That sounds exactly right.

I don't actually think it's insomnia, it's only insomnia if you can't sleep but want to. ha! I guess if you're very tired but can't sleep and continue to be tired, then that's truly a case of insomnia. I read somewhere that people start hallucinating when they've been up for 4 days or so, with absolutely no sleep, and any more than that could actually kill you. Sounds cool.

Anyway, I'm really only very tired for the darkest months. I hate them. Late December to early February are the worst. I hate getting up when it's dark, and dissapearing into a building for 6-8 hours only to re-emerge in the darkness again. Every year I tell myself that I will plan my days so that I can use the day-light, but every year that seems to be the time when schedules don't let it happen. This year wasn't as bad, I've noted, perhaps because my new office has a couple of giant windows that let the sun in all day. Back in academe, I was locked in the dungeon with the rest of the plebeians.

Summers are the best, I feel like I could go on forever in the summer.

My name is Matsu, and I have SAD.

I never recovered from an overnight shift I worked about 4 years ago. I still stay up until 5 or 6am. It's difficult for me to get up before noon. But I don't have to work until 3pm so it's no problem.

Ah, the life of a fire fighter. 24 on, 48 off. That means 2 nights of great sleep, and than one night of some fat woman shrieking about how she's having a heart attack at 3am when I should be sleeping. Or dragging my sorry butt out of bed to go put out a dumpster fire because some stupid teenagers can't figure out anything better to do with their time than set crap on fire.

Guess it comes with the territory though.

I can't sleep from time to time, but it's not particularly often. My normal schedule is up until somewhere between 2-4. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Sundays I get up early (6-7ish), but the other days I just sleep until I wake up.

Of course, all schedules are subject to change without notice. You've gotta be flexible when your "living" is doing freelance stuff somewhere between classes and sleep.
