have you watched the LOTR special edition box sets??? after all the hard work, they deserve everything theyre nominated for--IMO you cant even compare lotr to any other film(s) since the original star wars. everything was awesome, from the music to the acting, and special effects.
lotr will win best pic, and totally deserves it
peter jackson will win best director, and deserves it WAY more than clint eastwood
edit: i havent seen lost in translation (will be watching it today) but i really think johnny depp was great in pirates. i cant say he deserves it more than bill murray cause i havent seen LIT, but i feel like he's been shafted.
Just my $0.02,
-John

NOTA (though a supporting actress I think Rene Zellweger was the best actress I saw all of last year)
Who will take a shot at Bush?
Several people I wager, and deservedly so.
All that said, LotR was still my favorite movie. But I have to be real: Seabiscuit had better acting, was an equally well told story, and relied on no real special effects of any kind (as we're used to them).

Yes it is. Have you seen The Triplets of Belleville though?
wow, i just saw the trailer, and just by itself, i have to pick this movie up on dvd when it comes out.
My party starts in an hour and a half, but here are my picks for the big show (limited to the categories my party will include on its ballot):
Best Picture: Lord or the Rings: The Return of the King
Best Director: Peter Jackson
Best Animated Picture: Finding Nemo
Best Actor: Sean Penn
Best Actress: Charlize Theron
Best Supporting Actor: Tim Robbins
Best Supporting Actress: Renée Zellweger
Best Original Screenplay: Lost in Translation
Best Adapted Screenplay: Mystic River
Best Cinematography: Cold Mountain
Best Original Song: "A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow"
Best Score: Return of the King
Best Editing: Return of the King
There are entire five minute segments of that movie that the story is propelled by crisp editing.
I'd like the girl from Whale Rider to win but I doubt she will.
Oh, and Nemo is a pretty safe bet isn't it? There may be some barbs thrown Disney's way during that acceptance speech.

Kirk
thanks for the running updates tonton
btw, Robin Williams got in several sharp digs at Disney and everyone seemed to be making sure to mention PIXAR when they referred to the movie....good deal.

Steve Jobs was not a producer of Finding Nemo. If anyone accepts the award, it'll probably be Jim Lasseter, the heart and soul of Pixar.
