I usually stick to Subway if I want to eat out at a fast food place (foot-long Dijon horseradish melt with lettuce, tomato and sweet peppers, bag of chips and bottle of Pepsi from the case) but every once in a while I'll stop at the drive-through window at Bullets, a slowly growing chain whose burgers are better than anything churned out by McDonald's, Burger King, Hardee's and Wendy's, I think. 100% Black Angus beef, and it tastes like it was actually grilled. Plus, Bullets fries are ridiculously good.
More often than not, if someone else is making my food it's not a fast food chain. Local Chinese, Vietnamese or Italian places, subs or wings from Mojo's, the list goes on...
Nothing like going to KFC and gorging yourself on a 3 piece thigh/leg combo PLUS 20 piece hot wings. Raising my cholesterol? Yes. Gaining wight? Nope.
An in-law worked at a big industrial chicken farm: he stopped eating anything to do with chickens years ago because of it, including eggs . . .
for instance he said: the shiit would pile up under the chickens, who were in hanging wire cages, packed in like stuffing . . . the shiit would be up to three-four feet high and yet there never were any flies . . . now why do you think that is?
He said that they took care of the fly problem by feeding the chickens a certain kind of insecticide

A chicken's gotta poo what a chicken's gotta poo. Insecticide just fortifies your digestive system!

Judging by their webpage, I'd say they are almost entirely local. Looks tasty though. I try to avoid fast food beef, but their's sounds good. Hardey's also has 100% angus beef and their stuff seems pretty good.
As a side note, did you subway is the most franchised business in the US? There are more subways than McDonalds.
My fast food intake really depends on my environment. My company does a lot of business with the entertainment industry, so at times I choke down a lot of stadium food.
McDonalds is nothing. If you want to kill yourself, eat an aptly named "heartstopper" at "The Haven." (Hoagie Haven) It's a 14" long bacon cheesesteak with fried eggs on top. Greasy as hell, and I think it makes 3000+ calories.
Damn tasty, and manageable if you have a friend to split it with.

Where do people get off making such unearthly sandwiches?
FOUR Double cheeseburgers? Either you metabolise like a champ or you have to butter your thighs when going through a doorway
I guess good metabolism. I'm hoping when it starts to slow down that I can just start running or something to keep it up where it is now. Keep in mind I'm 17 (18 in may!) and a boy. So that always helps

These days never. Never-ever type 'never'. I haven't bought anything in McD's, KFC, Boiger King or Wimpy for maybe nine years. My major problem is that I really hate the smell of the places.
I might see myself buying a sandwhich from Pret-a-manger, although I can't even remember the last time I did that. I'd really rather go hungry than eat genuinely bad food, although of course sometimes I do eat rubbish things.
I love hamburgers, and I eat chips (fries), but when they're done properly - on a grill, by a chef, with good meat - I'm not sure that that counts as 'fast food.' I might have a burger every few months. I have fries maybe once a month.
I haven't eaten at McDonalds in years. I hate McD's up and down. Awful stuff. My fast food weaknesses, for the large chains anyway, are the sausage egg and cheese bicuit at BK in the morning (only allow myself to get it once in a blue moon because it's almost as many calories as a whopper), and the chili with the 5 piece chicken nuggets ($0.99 each!) at Wendy's on many a late night at work.
For the non-big-chain fast food, I haven't been to Hoagie Haven in probably 2 years, but they make the best cheese steak outside of Philly, and Chicken Holiday lays the smackdown on KFC any day off the week. The best pizza is at Antonio's by my home, Delorenzo's and Massimo's also in the area. Conte's is good too, but not worth the trip, the wait and everything else.
McDonalds is simply trying to keep the health cops off their back, and it is sad too.
everyone knows that mcdonalds is not, and never was health food, and mcdonalds made no bones about it, but people see deep pockets and then drag their lazy fat asses to the lawyer and sue because society is so complasent when it comes to personal responsabilaty, (No trial lawers, personal responsibality is not blasphemy) society says "do what feels good now, and later, aw hell just sue somebody" untill this changes...well......
Finally, a good result from the no-carb craze. Super-sizing foods like those served by McDonald's is just another way of saying "Yes, and if you don't mind, I'll take a shorter life expectancy with my regular meal deal please..." And you pay for the privelege no less.
Otherwise, the low carb stuff is just as ridiculous and baseless as other dieting fads we've seen. Most of the people who go nuts over this stuff seem to forget the most basic fact: if your diet isn't balanced (in terms of what's in it and how much vs. the calories you burn every day), you will remain fat. Balanced diets taken in moderate amounts (i.e. too little isn't good either) and a bit of exercise every week (real exercise) is the only way... period.
That said, i sympathize with Brad, because if i had a Chic-fil-A nearby, my answer would have changed from "A couple times a week" to "Once a day and twice on Sundays". I LOVE their sandwiches (which I imagine are not nearly as bad for you as the chicken sandwiches you get at McD's or BK). No comparison in quality, which is why I like them so much....

i dont like this idea of no super sizing. i've come to terms with my weight; i like my gut. and i gladly fork over the pennies they ask for for super size. as it is, i tend to get two super size fries with my partially processed and oddly colored rat meat. what am i supposed to do now? two regular size fries, plus a mini? putting relatively healthy foods out is one thing, cuz then teh health nuts can eat that shit [as if people go to mcds for healthy eatin']. but taking away my god given right to eat the finger licking awesomeness of mcd's fries in overwhelming abundance is crazy. if i start losing weight or whatever over this, well.. i won't be upset about it, but... i like those fries. a lot. if this were done for cost reasons, i'd understand. but they dont say its for money [and the fact that supersizing lasted so long implies that it was cost effective], they say its for health reasons, and its silly. we fatties can still get our full amount of greasy food. aarg. [/rant ends now] i'm gonna have some mcds tonight. i'm hungry.
Haven't you heard? Maintaining your weight isn't your own responsibility, nor is it your parents' responsibility when you're a child. This all goes back to initiatives like the ones where state governments are banning the sales of 'unhealthy' foods at school. Sheesh, at least let the local school districts decide what's good for them. If Americans can't help being obese, let them be obese.
Judging by their webpage, I'd say they are almost entirely local.
Not really. Regional, maybe. Locations in Alabama, Arkansas, Delaware, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia.
'Course, down here in Va. we also tend to go for pulled pork barbecue sandwiches and ribs, which aren't very healthy either.
On the subject of the supersizing, I'm only going to miss the Super Size drinks (but there's always my other vice, the Double Gulp size drinks at 7-Eleven.) McDonald's french fries are way too salty and they get cold before I can finish them. McDonald's burgers are horrible, too. I remember when I was a kid and going out for a quarter pounder with cheese, french fries and a chocolate shake was a real treat. Now McDonald's food to me tastes nothing like it used to.
Civilized people DO NOT put Pigs in 18-inch wide cages, on concrete floors, indoors FOR LIFE. Anyone who eats the factory farmed meat served at McDonalds, et al is guilty of unethical treatment of animals.

Fast food for the most part is f.cking foul.

Hoagie Haven is a small, short-order place in Princeton. Every now and then it gets mentioned on the Daily Show.

Long live the grill.
Imagine... a burger just as thick and juicy as what's in the picture! Haven't been there in months, though.
