Bush's father attended the funeral of my wife's first husband, who died flying F-16s in Desert Storm. He even included his name in a speech.
You sure you want to keep defending this guy?
Cheers
Scott
I'll defend him as long as the criticism is unwarranted and unreasonable. Bush cannot be expected to attend each military funeral. How would he pick and choose?

If he's willing to send boys off to fight and die, the least he can do is take a vacation from one of his vacations and go to a funeral.
His father did.
Edit: BTW, it's just occurred to me that you've essentially argued here that it's not Bush's fault that he hasn't attended any funerals...there have simply been too many to choose from.
But it is not the obligation of a President to attend funerals. If he does, good for him. If he does not, so what? Does this mean he doesn't respect soldiers? Does it mean he doesn't appreciate their sacrifice? I don't think so, and if you do you're really stretching.
Given all the wide open areas Bush can be attacked on, it's blatantly petty that this is a point of contention for some.

i don't think it is a point of contention...just another observation of a pattern for bushie...doesn't, by his own admission, want to go to vietnam, so he joins the guard....doesn't want to do all his time in the guard, so he goes first to help out a political race out of state, then goes to business school...now as president during his "war on terror" he spends more time on vacation than any other president in history...taking a day from your next month long trip to your crawford ranch to spend a day at a funeral might do him some good...get to see the reality of war as opposed to the "danger" of putting on a flight suit and walking on a battleship off the san diego coastline...he doens't need to go to all (how could he possible do that?!? way too many) but he can easily pick out a die hard repub family that has lost a boy to war so the funeral will be less uncomfortable for him...
Precisely. People are going to perceive things along party lines no matter what W or any other President does, regardless of what the reality of the situation is.
That's why politics, AO, and this thread suck. Everyone is so entrenched in their positions that they won't give an inch, even on these ridiculous issues.
Take for instance his trip to Baghdad:
You either saw it as him showing support or a photo op.
hey . . .I'm all behind his trips to Iraq and the WTC
I am NOT behind his cynical use of those horrific events for Image Control and Maintanance . . . it doesn't surprise me, and I probably would not have said anything except that the families themnselves object
it is at that point that a decent man would pull the crap out of our eyes
oh yeah . . . and as for Bush not going to funerals because he is emotional and might cry!!!
That would be funny if it weren't so pathetic: HE SHOULD BE CRYING . . . on his hands and knees unable to breath-crying with clenched hands and praying, slobbering and blubbering
But the truth appears to be, as Vonnegut put it, that he is a sociopathic personality type; who simply uses people without remorse or concern . . . he could at least attend honorary rites of some form . . .
but really what he is most concerned with is keeping acknowledgement of DEAD US SOLDIERS out of people's minds
That is why there are no photographs . . . no visuals = no point-driven-home about the reality of his little pax Americana adventure
Another less-publicized aspect of the ad flap: the use of paid actors?including two playing firefighters with fire hats and uniforms in what looks like a fire station. "Where the hell did they get those guys?" cracked Harold Schaitberger, president of the International Association of Fire Fighters, which has endorsed John Kerry, when he first saw the ads. (A union spokesman said the shots prompted jokes that the fire hats looked like the plastic hats "from a birthday party.") "There's many reasons not to use real firemen," retorted one Bush media adviser. "Mainly, its cheaper and quicker."
I don't know about that. I head of Fox News yes the ultra right wing bias media that the woman/mom/soldier in the ad is a paid actor too. Obviously a news cover up. Where's Ted Rall when we need him?
Oh my God my fake outrage is boiling over. Look at this.
I don't know . . . . It could be fake outrage for some . . . but just looking at Bush and thinking about the Endless-Laundry-List-of-CYNICAL-Shiite-That-Is-His-Term-So-Far gets some REAL outrage going here!!

Ditto with his trip to the aircraft carrier.
Ditto with his trip to the WTC...
As you say "patterns... perceptions"

CNN on RNC pressure on TV stations not to run MoveOn.org ads

yeah and it's kinda hard to get Firemen to be in your ad when they don't support you...

note to self:
http://www.usatoday.com/news/politic...-08-poll_x.htm
Still... it's really early. But it's good that the first poll outta the gates since Kerry won Super Tuesday has him favored 52% to 44%.
