We're heading to the Black Rose around 7PM tonight. It's at 160 State Street for those Boston folk interested. We may crawl around to a few other pubs throughout the night. If anyone is interested in tagging along, PM or email me. Hope everyone has a safe and happy day today... and if you're driving, don't drive home
I swear to god, if one more person looks at me today and says "So how come you're not dressed up for St. Patrick's Day?" I'm going to make haggis from their guts.
I have red hair.
I'm *SCOTTISH* you fookin' ponces.
Only our daft Irish brethren had to come up with an *EXCUSE* to get drunk.
I mean, really.
And considering it's a Catholic event, you're all lucky I'm not wearing glaring bright Protestant Orange. :P

st. patrick's day is when people of all nationalities come together to celebrate a common hatred of the english . surely the scottish in you can take to that. and your red hair aint just common on that side of the sea; i'm irish and my beard is red. the top o' me head was once, but its not as pronouncibly red as it used to be. besides, the drinking aspect of st. p's day wasn't started over there, its more of an american tradition pulled from some stereotypes. i believe that my brothers in Erin treat the day like a genuine catholic holiday, with churchiness and such, only drinking normal amounts.
Please give it a rest, the posting guidelines say AppleOutsider is not a forum to spew vitriol against people, I feel the English count as a people, varied and multi-ethnic as we are. I'm off to the pub to have a few pints with Irish people actually born in that country who strangely enough, don't hate the English. Odd isn't it? As I said before, Happy St. Patrick's Day TO ALL.
Thuh Freak is right, it wasn't until very recently that such a fuss was put over drinking on St. Patrick's Day. The Irish don't need an excuse to drink, we'll drink whenever we damn well please :P The holiday was always treated like as the Catholic holiday it is. I think it is more Americans that wished it to be such a liquor fest. Which is OK with the Irish, drinking isn't a bad thing.
Also, "Erin" is the anglicised spelling of Ireland, or Ã?ireann as it is spelled in Gaelic. Erin would be, roughly, how you pronounce it

i'm not spewing vitriol, i'm making jokes. its particularly easy since you're so sensitive about it. jeez, you act like you're being oppressed, or invaded or something.

"Erin go Braugh" is pretty meaningless, as it is just the phonetical spelling of the Gaelic (Gaelige actually): Éireann go Brách, which means, roughly, "Ireland Forever".
Well we were invaded by the Romans, the Vikings, the Anglo-Saxons, the Normans. Napoleon tried, then some guy called Hitler had a go but we forgave his people a while back. I was going to offer to send you a Guinness hat i got from the pub for buying 5 pints but LoCash has shown me that maybe you're not as Irish, or right, as you think. May the road rise to meet you.
This guy told me the other day that I'd make a good Englishmen, wherupon I said, "well that's fitting since all the best Englishmen are really Irish anyway". Personally I feel no ill will towards the Brits as a people, but their gov't can go **** themselves.

*cough* India Zimbabwe Argentina Hong Kong *cough*
Poor invaded Brits. Hoist a pint in their direction, eh?
Sheesh mon. Let it go. A country goes around stomping locals for a couple of centuries, it gets lampooned for a while, 'k? You guys had your turn, now the US is giving it a go. Sheesh.
Clan Donnachaidh here (meaning I'm a Scot), but I'll celebrate St. Patrick's Day with my Irish brethreen any old day! It was a hoot hanging out in ATL's "Highland" area tonight...drinking Guinness and running into people I know.
Very nice. Even made it home in time to eat some Krystal burgers!

Ooh, did you go to the Limerick Junction ST Patty's block party this year in the Highlands? That's my local pub back home, always have great music. Ossian Gillebert and Chris Ricker are great. I wish I could have been there this year, but I'm flying back to ATL next week, so I'll drop by and see Gordon and Brian and Audrey

Where should I drive to then?
Now if I could just hook my car onto the back of a Green Line train I'd be all set...
