Yeah, you really went out on a limb there. No one saw this coming. Congrats.

Oh, lighten up. He flubbed it by including speakers in his concept, but apart from that he nailed almost everything audio-related about the new device. He even got the little speaker-selector menu in iTunes.

I sure didn't see this coming.

Threads like this are the whole point of this forum.

Alright nsousansousa, looks like the time had come for easy wireless connection to speaker sets, just not your speaker sets. This was one option thought of long ago for getting a simple way of music (and for me DVD audio) to my stereos.

The iTunes integration is something we saw coming...with drop down menu...good job on ya. I would like to see this integrated into the DVD Player or just the audio menu of the Finder so that everything goes over it!!

Wanna bet that is a part of Tiger's purr!?!?!?

This is one of the few Apple perif's I'll get....i don't have an ipod.

    Thanks MacGregor and Endash.

I completely missed the Speaker being out but I think I got ahead of myself. The future will tell.

I am also pretty sure that the next device to include Airtunes Streaming will be the iPod. Its what makes sense (for me)

You will be able to stream directly which will mean 802.11g addition to iPod.

Maybe not the next iteration, but soon.

I am really looking forward now to the car integration solution. I think it will be a deck that sucks the iPod in and it will have the iPod interface. I think Apple WANTS to license the scroll wheel to the car audio manufacturers.

    We'll see....

I think in the next iteration, the iPod will control the tunes being played (remote control) rather than stream them itself. Way too much battery drainage entailed in that. Who knows though...Digital Lifestyle products are really advancing at Apple.

The car integration thing is quite a different venue for them, but hey, it is a wicked ass idea.

Wait..wait....wrong. I re-read your orginal post. Like this one you 'predicted' a set of wireless speakers. And a huge set, at that. That's nothing like Airport Express.

Sure you -- and about 10 thousand other folks -- have been looking for a way to stream iTunes wirelessly. That hardly qualifies you as a prognosticator.

I give credit where due, and I'd say this prediction came A LOT closer to the mark than many/most around here.

In fact, I'd expect that Apple's own Powered Speaker line will soon be marketed side-by-side with the Airport Express as a simple (Buy these and get music anywhere you want it) solution.

    NICE JOB!

(PS> I still would prefer to see a true Apple Media Center!).

Oh c'mon...here's a report from five months ago that is much closer to what Apple actually released yesterday:

Look, I'm not trying to be a pr!ck about this. nsousansousa's posts are great, but a set of three-foot wireless speakers? How is that like Airport Express?

Face it. Airport Express is typical Apple...a very simple, elegant solution that we all expected but couldn't really envision until Apple showed us how.

I think that you could pretty much get any nice set of active speakers and do this directly from an Airport Express. No need for Apple to do it, but they could certainly have HK or another company manufacture a nice set of floorstanders which can take an optical out. Stereo might require an extra wire, but it could be made relatively unobtrusive.
