I'm going off on a tangent here but I just came up with a thought regarding the so-called VideoPod.
Fact: Apple has been hiring late last year for video engineers to work on a next generation portable device. So we know Apple is working on something (although it may or may not make it to market).
So, what if that portable device is not the iPod? Basically, Apple will continue to sell the iPod in its current form (with continuous minor refinements of course.)
At the same time, they will come up with a completely different product line called the vPod which is a video camcorder but it uses the 60GB Toshiba drive.
It will work just like a regular camcorder but it have Apples trademarked ease of use. There's no tape so there is no rewinding or tape changes involved. Video transfers to your computer will be a lot faster. 60GB is about 4.6 hours of DV video or 25 hours of MPEG-4. Fewer moving parts means lower costs. And it will have all the functionality of the iPod.
EDIT: On second thought, Apple could use a 100GB 2.5" drive for more than 7.7 hours of DV.
Apple reverted to Lithium Ion with the 3G and subsequently were able to get less battery life. Does anyone know what is happening on this front? Will Lithium Polymer or something even better ever return?
