Slightly redesigned? What were you expecting them to be? Round?

No, I think you misunderstand... QT could be a workflow oriented API layered over fast native technologies on each platform... DirectX9 on Windows, and Core* on Mac. Same API on top, different techs under the hood.

I´m sorry but there has more to come.

This is why this was a developer's conference. Developers have vision. They see what all this dry mumbo jumbo means for the apps that they will develop.

You, apparently not a developer, want shiny baubles today, not 9-12 months from now. Sadly, you thought it was a Macworld Expo. It was not.

Take our word for it. This was the best WWDC ever for what it promises.

Attendance was up greatly from last year. They released new displays (YEAH!) and introduced Tiger to developers. I'd say it was a good WWDC (not great, haven't seen enough of them to have any reference). The iMac is lagging sure... its been lagging for a long long while. Guess it will continue to lag. Still fits it's niche though.

Don't care about footprint, noise or flexibility? Get an eMac, otherwise its iMac you go. That hasn't changed since the eMac got a bump. Since all I hear is EOL, they will need an iMac update or retailers will be out of machines and Apple will be losing money on possible sales.

Should they have released iMacs monday? Well, sooner the better I'm sure but the lack of them doesn't result in "Poor Performance @ WWDC".

The displays? WTF is your problem? Slightly redesigned my aunt fanny.
    • Less Bezel

    • Minimalistic and Aluminum

    • Much Lighter

    • USB/FireWire connectors

    • Single Cable design using an industry standard DVI connector

    • Shockingly low (16ms) delay over their predecessors (40+)

Coupled with all the positives of the displays they are replacing (great colors, wide angle viewing). They are amazing. Can't wait to look at them in person at one of the local Apple Stores, cause I just know one of them is going to follow me home

Would I have tolerated a price drop if only 2 of the above points was met? No. I'd rather pay less for more technology. That is exactly what I'm doing. I'm calling it a bargain until I see another LCD manufacture offer me all the above in a wide-screen display for a lower price.

And IIRC, compared to other "largest" Cinema displays of their time the 30" is cheaper.

I don't like the "windows start menu style Apple menu" either It is too much embracing (potential) switchers.

I imaginate, that in the next Os X update apple will provide an option in the pref pane for all switchers: "If you come from another platform, than probably you want the look and feel of that other platform. So check "START BUTTON" to see a "START BUTTON" in the top left corner."

    Apple, don't start that mess!!!

Btw, yet, hence, i have faith, hey, it is still a PREVIEW, isn't it?

Bear in mind, however, that Apple has moved away from announcing things in expos. If they want to release something with a splash, they can announce an Apple Event in Cupertino, give the press a week's notice, and expect a packed house and saturation-level coverage.

However, see the speculations of the Paris Expo by Bidouille

Paris Expo might be the next event introducing new hardware, the iMac is long overdue and the WWDC keynote was 15 minutes shorter than expected.

I can't imagine the speech ending 15 minutes early on account of a potential hardware upgrade: you know long before the event begins if you're going to announce it or not (design. production etc.)

The only possible cause to pull an iMac announcement at the last minute would be receipt of a report on inventory levels for existing units still being too high.

On the other hand, perhaps there was a partnership or acquisition that they were hoping to announce but that hadn't cleared the lawyers in time. My hope is a Tivo connection, of course this is all WILD SPECULATION and wishful thinking. Call me guilty.

Eh, I'll call you guilty. Having been in industry, I've seen major products yanked *hours* before roll out. Not delayed, yanked. Cancelled. Shelved. Steved, if you will.

It may not have been an iMac upgrade or replacement, it may not have even been hardware... but it felt like *something* was pulled at the last minute, and not just part of another demo.

I'm not saying it *will* happen, or that I'm even sold on it being a real possibility... just that it *could* be what's intended.

Hmm, I watched the keynote and looked over the Tiger preview area and never once saw a shot of the Apple menu in Tiger. How has it changed?

Just watched the keynote today, and Tiger is very impressive. Core Image and Video look great, as well as H.264. Can't wait. Now with shift to DVI ATI can release some better retail GPUs... unless Apple is preventing them from doing so. Grr.

Did anyone here attend the WWDC and get their free copy of early Tiger? If so, what's your feeling about the OS? Anyone know how much we have to fork over in Developer fees to get this early Tiger release?

    Tnx.

Of course there are a bunch of non developers getting pirated versions. However take their comments with a grain of salt since they cannot offer you the insights that a developer woul d about the process of OS development.

So far so good though I'm reading Spotlight looks to be the real deal.

And you have to realize going in that:

    1) You will agree to an NDA, and there will be consequences for violating it;

    2) You will agree that you're downloading a pre-release operating system, and Apple's not liable if it trashes your data, your software or your hardware;

    3) Unless you actually are a developer, you'll be greeted with a few superficial features that Apple might or might not have finished, and a whole raftload of stuff that makes no sense at all - but which, to a developer, really is the interesting stuff.

Unless you really intend to become a developer and install this on a spare machine to develop or test, it's really not worth it.

Indeed. The more I read, the more amazing it looks. I know people whose computer usage will be completely transformed... and considering what my own Documents folder looks like, I might be one of them.

Thanks. Am a developer but never paid the bigger bucks for the enrollment. Will look into that. Anyone know off-hand if Xcode 2 is included with this early release of Tiger? I would guess so but figured I'd ask those that attended WWDC.

    Thanks to all.
