Obviously many of you haven?t been sharing your movies or video much since so few have really thought about the trouble of burning CD?s and DVD?s as an inconvenience. I hate both with a passion when it comes to creating them myself. It takes allot of time to encode & burn DVD's and if they fail? It makes me scream just thinking about it. Not to mention the inconvenience of sifting through disk after disk to find what you want and the worry that it might not work on the player you have at hand, forget it!. I?ll bring my own player and plug in into the TV or projector myself. A portable device is definitely the way to go, imagine directly encoding a movie to your "ipod extreme" that would be a godsend for those that need to share raster data on a regular basis. Not to mention, why did apple dump so much cash into H26 if it's only going to be used for GSM phones? I don't think so! And perhaps the most idiotic comments made on this board are referencing the small screen and not wanting to watch movies on a small screen. Don't be stupid, if you were on the bus or on a plane and you wanted to watch your presentation for glitches before the meeting, or just a movie to pass the time you'd use it and in the end you're meant to ultimately display the content on a larger screen for Christ?s sake. The internal screen gives you options for viewing on the go (who doesn't carry photos in their wallets? (Oh I?m sorry most of you are 14 and without families, I forgot) the "iPod" helps you get the data there in a more accessible format, that can then be more easily shared. Wouldn't you prefer to show a demo to a client and then simply copy the data to their drives if they ask for a one rather than burning needless DVD's?
I will say this though, It may take apple a while to get there, they will want to do it right and they usually do, but you can never call such a device a bad idea, for many this thing would be worth it's weight in gold and it may very well come close to that. Many manufacturers made mp3 players long before Apple entered the market. They have some time before the market is dominated by anyone else, and I would except them to use it, because in the end for apple it's all about the end users experience, not just what the device can do!
Personally, I'm wating with eager anticipation for all of the new great tech that will soon reach our doorsteps.

I'm 36 and *with* a family. The concept needs more work to be worthwhile.
If I'm dealing with a client I bring my laptop. I'm fairly certain the clients I deal with would *not* be impressed at all if I showed him the demo on the small screen or tried messing about hooking it up to some a/v equipment I would expect them to provide. If I'm using it to check a presentation for glitches and find one I'm screwed too, unless I am using the laptop. I've yet to have a problem providing CD/DVD information to the people I've dealt with either (maybe luck, maybe not).
I agree that this will eventually happen but not yet and I'm certain Apple won't do it half assed.
The only thing the 4G ipod (at the moment) needs is WiFi. Think of Aiport Express. When i come home i dont want to connect my ipod, I would just sent the music to one of my home stereos of infact maby my one of my friend stereos if happen to be at there house, when I get to work....same.
With wifi it could also function as a remote for my computer (Itunes, DVD player, Iphoto) much like the salling clicker today but heeps better.
I think you wont see video capabillaties on the ipod before Airport express gets them.

I'm not entirely sold on WiFi in a device like the iPod. It is small enough to stick anywhere and with a small adapter can connect to any stereo wherever you go. With the WiFi, you also have to rely on your friend's stereo to be able to *recieve* your signal (unless your friend has Airport Express already). Airport Express solves this (much more elegantly) but is a larger device to tote about than an adapter from radio shack for a few dollars. In the future perhaps WiFi is more pervasive but not now in this reality.
The interface would be the same as the iPod now, one would just scroll down to "Wi-Fi HotSpot", Select the Airport Express station needed, then scroll to the song or play list and sit back enjoy.

Think about WIFI and itms integration. Buy that track you hear streaming at your local wifi hotspot!
Salling clicker is cool
and on the sony ericsson symbian phones you get album art streamed.
It's right there. I think that both color album art and wifi will make the 4g ipod. Share music legally
Video 5g or different product entirely

Great idea
