    The performas 5200 also had such issues.

    but there is a simple workaround:

    Get yourself a pair of really ultracheap earplugs.

    cut off the cable so you only have the plug left.

    Plug the plug into the dront headphone jack before booting.

    after the startup is done, pull it out again.

    I guarantee you won't hear the chime anymore.

    ... you could also boot-up and leave the room. You shouldn't hear it then either.

    For the time being, I'm just putting my hand over the speaker when I start up so I don't blow out the windows in my office.

    I found a piece of stirofoam and stuck it on the speaker. Works pretty good.

    I did'nt really get this computer but I picked it out for our schools newspaper. Dual 1Ghz G4 256MB Ram 80GB, Geforce4MX. Should get it very soon.

    Dual 1-gig, no extras - oh, and a 17" Studio Display, too.



    Gawd, this thing is nice!
