Couldn't the fan be sucking air through the holes AND the bottom of the case. Wouldn't that create more air flow?

read the posts! Several people state that they do serve a inlets, for a small amount of air which is directed down by the chrome plate behind them. The air combines with air from the main vent in the bottom. As far as the rest of the comment goes I guess you think the chromed plastic bays serve some purpose functioal purpose as well and the silver paint too prolly. There is such a thing as pure decoration whether or not it looks good is another point.

Pay more for your Mac and get less service
