Yes. It's an extremely awkward way to make your harddrive less efficient. If you are testdriving operatngs systems, a separate disk is the way to go.

Quick question about Core Image... I have the 1ghz 17" (Rev A) Powerbook G4. This is not an FX, just a Geforce Go correct? (Bummer)

ok then tell me this. Why do we not have external graphics cards ? Avid has MOJO which is almost the same thing so there is a fast enough cable out there that could do it like firewire 800.

That would solve a lot of upgrade problems.

Because a Powermac can fit a top-end graphics card if you want to!

And you dont buy a Powerbook primarily for gaming..

No computer is one-size-fits-all, you realize.

Some want portability. Some want raw power. The two don't easily mesh.

You pick the product that meets your *needs*, and run with it.

Eh that is not the best idea. As sometimes you can only buy one item. And I could say the same then on buying the imac. But really this would solve ALOT of problems for upgradeing easy squeesy. Even on the powermac. You could some how run a farm with them like that.,..

Engineering is trade-offs. So is consumerism. You decide what you need, and find the product that fits it.

Trying to create the uber-laptop is an exercise in futility.

I believe what you're looking for is a PCI-X extension bus, which is actually in the spec. I don't believe anyone is planning on implementing such a beast for laptops, however, it is extreme overkill for 99.9% of the market, and the remaining .1% don't warrant the engineering cost.
