Hey Norair, real engineers use the metric system! The iBook is 34mm thick. The new 12" PowerBook is 30mm thick. (The later I stay up, the more biting my humor gets. Yikes.)

It depends on the machinery they were made on. American machinery, which exists in many non-American countries, is based on thousandths of an inch. Given that modern Computer controlled systems can convert units easily, what matters is the nation of design. . .
And I believe they say "Designed in California" on them.
Personally, I'm a big fan of metric. My weather program spits it out in Centigrade, and I use meters rather than feet in normal conversation (about lengths). But I'm just being technical with ya'.

I was just pulling your leg, Splinemodel. The Imperial, or should it be impractical, system is one of my pet-peeves. When I saw inches and engineers in one post I couldn't resist.
I understand the tooling issue. What cracks me up is when you have to use Imperial tools to work on the body of your car but use metric tools to work on the engine, because the latter was made outside the US on non-US machinery. (Or vice versa, of course.) Wacky Americans!
Oh, the choices for those people who can afford them! The 17" gargantuanBook does not look as big as it would seem. Just seems a mite bigger than the 15" model. But that 12" is just everything we've been asking for in a PowerBook....wow. I am going to wait on Rev.B and look into the 17" model, hopefully when a new proc is inside (or not, doesn't really affect my purchase of it - not exactly a big 3D gamer or effects compositor ). For now, the Pismo 400 I have is running Jaguar very smoothly and performs adequately (too bad Quartz Extreme is not an option with it, but oh well). I can't wait to see what summer/early fall might bring for Apple, if even that late in the year.
Ok, I'm gonna have to stop coming to this site or any other website for a while because the more I see that thing, the more I want it! Jeez. How much can I get for my Ti? Argh...
man, why do i have to be graduating NEXT year, that means i have to wait YEAR for my graduation present which will of course be a computer, because i plan on owning a car by then...plus i have cheap parents so i couldn't get a good car...but then again i won't be able to get a GOOD computer...blasted, well i guess its back to running a carracho server for money...and selling one of my kidneys...come on, i know you guys binge drink when Intel releases a new processor, so u need one, how much u give me for it?
They should have compared the AluBook with a PC laptop, as such not to show its superiorit to the iBook but huge size difference between a PC laptop and a Apple laptop. God bless apple for this, i hope 970 is out by this summer, i will tell my boss to get one and he will!
...after thought, that 12" looks almost TOO small to type on comfortably, i guess i'll have to see one in person sometime

I don't think so -- it should have the same size keyboard as the ibook and I think it's the same as the 17" model as well (although not backlit).
I know, I know... I can't keep spending every freaking minute of the day looking at Mac sites!!
This month long wait is going to kill me.

wheww... glad I'm not the only one with this problem.
I keep trying to convince myself to get the 12" at Christmas, but I'm flying to the States tomorrow, and I'm staying long enough to pick up one of these to, er, supplement my iBook.
Unfortunately, the wife is using up serious funds for international wedding #2. There are priorities in life, dammit! Cool stuff comes first.

You know it's special when it can make a friggin' iBook look sort of bloated and ugly... WOW.

Don't insult my iBook, Murbot. You're gonna make me upgrade.

This is pretty cool. I haven't seen this kind of collective credit card dusting off in a while.

but I am the standard by which all are measured! I can't be "lower" than average, can I ?
This month long wait is going to kill me.
But seriously, I've wanted an iBook but would never have bought a G3 based machine at this point. Lust. Pure silicon lust.
That thing is so tiny, its sure to get me laid.

Having it just sit next to a Dell would be all you would need for a Switcher commercial.
Anyway.....sh!t....I really want that 12" PowerBook....
But I don't think I can even afford one after my vacation
