That second mockup is even better. I have some questions, though. What will be used instead of the "Call" key? Also, how big is this thing? Do you have any specs? What about a camera?

hm. maybe we're not understanding what a mock up is.

I'm not a cell phone engineer. That being so, I didn't feel it necessary to flesh out the exact dimensions, weight, materials cost, production costs, and other such things...

As for call... hell, it could be as simple as pressing the scroll ball down once you've entered the numbers. If you just wanted to save the number, you could scroll the ball left to the "save" option or something.

I don't think the scroll ball would be at all practical for a mobile phone. I can put my V3 on a table and pick it up and call anybody in my phone book in less than 7 seconds. Now try and do that with a scroll ball. Besides the thing would gather way too much dirt.

    A few questions:

    1. How do you make a call?

    2. How do you make a call from the phone book?

    3. How do you access the Menu?

    4. How do you turn on and off the phone?

    5. how do you stop the buttons being accidentally pressed?

    6. How do you listen to music?

    7. How do you navagate the music?

    8. Is there a camera?

8(b) If yes, how many mega pixels?

8(c) is the camera an iSight, like in the new Mac's?

How does one ever stop buttons from accidently being pressed?

    6. How do you listen to music?

    Preferrably, with your iPod.

    7. How do you navagate the music?

You lift your arm slightly, insert it into your pocket, remove your iPod and go from there.

Yes, but it also has a new x-ray setting so you can see girlie's undergarments.

Sorry guys. Its like talking to my four year old nephew.

"Look over there. There is a puppy"

    "Is it happy?"

    "Eh. Yes it looks happy"

"Does it live wth its father?"

    "Perhaps it does"

    "Does it dream about bones?

    "I...don´t know"

"Does it hope to go to France?"

I sorry but you must be retarded if you think they'd make an iPod phone, with no music function.

That's the whole point of the thing in the first place.

ITunes, hello!! If this was a bet, I'd be planning where to spend the money right now.

p.s. you can't dial on a keypad. Anders if you agree with him, you must be an even bigger child.

A few things: the END button should be TALK/END. How often do you need to use both buttons simultaneously? One should suffice. Holding TALK/END while on the phone, however, will switch lines to a "call waiting" rather than ending the call entirely.

I also like the fact that you've omitted an iSight. Camera phones, in my opinion, are a somewhat standardized but nevertheless useless technology.

Also, the keys are great in that they are touch sensitive. I would add that they should be slight, circular depressions (like the earlier iPods). Furthermore, the top three keys should also double as the <<, Play, and >> keys. The menu key is already the scrollball's push function.

Also, this should be a fusion of video iPod and phone. It would be insane to drop music function (or poorly implement only slight inclusions of one's library). It should be full blown--this thing should have 30gb+ of storage at the minimum.

note: maybe I was being a smartass to you. this may or may not be due to the fact that I'm posting mock ups of a theoretical device, and not actually preparing a product for launch. thus no actual need to answer any questions you posted. it's a visual MOCK UP.

    this is not reality.

I think you are just playing another game than Rag. Rageous is just making a mock-up of a phone with a simple interface and cool design (The Apple touch). A mock up doesn´t mean he has to have all the specs ready. Its not a package. Speculate away for yourself what to put inside the box.

What if you didn´t like his specs? Is his design out the window too?

Now we're talkin', that's a nice direction. Having the call button on the side of the phone would be a nice touch, squeeze to call. The volume could be moved though, to enable this. The slight depression, that would be cool too, like the volume buttons on the Hi-fi, nice.

Ive and the boys could also go another route too to see if it would work: for scrolling and music, they could put the click-wheel over the 2, 6, 8 and 4 buttons, with the white menu button where the 5 key is. Leave the numbers as is, and simply not add any of the symbols, >>, << Menu etc. (maybe play/pause, but none of the others). We already know how to use an iPod and the lack of symbols wouldn't change that.

rageous I stole the keypad off your concept so I could do mine. I hope that's ok!

Mine is no where near as slick, but this is what I would like to see, twice the thickness of a nano, but with 4GB memory (like the nano), larger screen, camera in the back, stainless steel back, you get the idea.
