    It's very simple.

VAT is 17.5% on almost everything except bottled gas (8% IIRC) or non-luxury food (chocolate, restaurant meals etc) and kids clothes. (0%)

Please don't get all USA capitalist bollocks on us Europeans. We like it this way mostly - it pays for our free healthcare and social services.

except in australia, when they introduced the Goods and Services Tax, in the next several years they started cutting back the free healthcare and social services. believe me, i have tried to access that (eg some healthcare and unemployment benefits which i was entitled to as a permanent resident)

"USA capitalist bollocks" what a way to put it....

The US system is better because it allows you to purchase from an out of state vendor and avoid paying any tax!

Of course, you're **supposed** to pay that tax you avoided when you pay your taxes, but nobody does it.

What if that store has a location in your home state? Yep. Not so better anymore.

Does this thread have anything to do with G5 iMac? I was wondering if there is anyone out there who would still buy one at this price point, knowing what we do about the new intel inside machines?

Anyone with an investment in PowerPC software, particularly titles that aren't going to be Universal any time soon would be better off with a G5. ie. anyone using Adobe's software, Macromedias or Microsoft's to a lesser extent.

Anyone that needs to run Classic still, needs a G5.

There's plenty of reasons why a G5 is currently better for some people.

With the new low price on the 20" model, if that's what you need, it's a steal!

    No, I mean it.

yes, for 17" wide and 20" wide and all the goodness of g5 and applications that work, right here, right now, get yer 17" and 20" iMac g5s while they last folks! last call! seriously, it's a good buy. 2007 may prove to be the last year of enjoying the goodness of the g5, in 2008 the g5 will be like the g3 now.

    *sigh*, technology.
