Thanks admactanium for the examples, very helpful.
Although I'm with bryan.fury thinking that these are just reflections. In fact if I hold my white Nano at a certain angle to the light I can mimik that exact look.
However, it seems that the transparent part of the front plate (when looking from the side), the one which you consider the rounded bezel, is a tad bit thicker than on my Nano.
As I don't have a 5G iPod, it could very well be that this transparent part is thicker on the 5G iPod compared to the iPod Nano. But it could also be thicker because of touch screen elements requiring it to be thicker. Or just thicker because it's made from a different material (presumably one that helps avoid easy scratching).
i don't think so guys. look at the bezel on the other side of that same image, it's clearly rounded with a flat platform just below the quarterround. it's consistent on both sides of the ipod.
I can see what you are talking about but its the same as the 5G iPod. Its just an illusion caused by the transparent surface and the angle. It is possible to create the same effect with a 5G ipod as shown in the pictures.
It is probably a fake, but at least it's more exciting than all the run-of-the-mill Photoshop fakes we see so frequently.
Anyone else realize that when he brings up the touchwheel and scrolls on it, nothing happens? I would figure a volume indicator would appear or something. Seemingly a strange missed detail seeing as how there is a title bar that drops from the top.
Am I simply missing something or is this legit or has this guy made an oversight in making a fake?

must be a white ipod thing. my black 5g ipod doesn't look like that no matter how i hold it.

Probably likely. When my nano is lit by sunlight at an angle, sometimes the light comes through the clear plastic and casts patterns on/in the white case.
i'll go ahead and throw in my vote for fake. after looking at the second photo in photoshop there are a lot of weird artifacts around the thumb. they look like artifacts from a mask that has been painted out strangely. plus, the shadow the bezel creates on the play screen just looks too perfect.
Put it into photoshop, and apply the sharpen more filter 3 times.
You will see there is a diferen't grain to the images in the areas around and inside the screen.
compare the evenness to the nano next to it.
(sorry no pics can someone do this and host ?)

how does that prove anything? you do realize that darker images in digital photography get more noise to them? so if you oversharpen anything you'll get different noise (not grain technically) in a single unaltered image. the nano's backlight is not on while the "video's" is.
that photo actually makes me believe it more becaus they matched that motion blur in both the nano and the "video" and the third picture has a consistent moire pattern. i dunno. they sure are good if they are fake. and i've even thrown in my fake vote.

you did miss something...because it is somewhat subtle.
if you pay attention to the superior portion of the iPod screen, after the finger touches the screen...you will notice a dock-like effect of something popping down...
there is something on the right...which appears to be a battery meter...and in the middle, I suppose that is the title of whatever the video is.

But we all know when you "scroll" the click wheel around when something is playing it raises or lowers the volume..... there is no volume meter on that video... only the title bar drops down....
God knows what the hell is going on... I think I may just OD on some sleeping pills and get my wife to throw some cold water over me to wake me up on April 1st (or 3rd) when Steve announces whatever the hell the next big thing is!

No, that was clearly noticable. Not subtle at all. Unless they have put a volume indicator in that bar, similar to the volume symbol on OSXs menu bar, then I think this pic was probably faked, because nothing seemingly happened when he used the touch wheel.
Take the image of it on top of the iPod HiFi and invert the image - sharpen it 4 times. See the dust? See its everywhere except on the "iPod AV"? (hard to see on the nano)
Open image #3 (iPod in audio playing mode) in Photoshop and enlarge the "virtual clickwheel" area: You will notice that the bezels of the display in this area are quite heavily convergencing due to the camera perspective. Not so the virtual clickwheel on the screen: Count the number of pixels on its top and on its bottom: they are equal -- which means the clickwheel on this image does not follow the convergencing perspective that the display's bezels show.
Thus: Fake!... Unfortunately...
But, I do of course still hope eagerly for exacly such an iPod! I would run to get one as soon as possible...
After looking at these photos for almost an hour I have to state that if it's a fake, it's the best photoshopped fake I've ever seen. I confess I like many subtle details on these photos.
All in all, I don't know what it is. Yes, the form factor is tight beyond belief. Yes, I have a significant cognitive dissonance with regard to both the battery and the type of memory. I can't imagine it has a hard drive. OTOH a video player like this should ship with at least 6GB. And I can't believe such a cool touch screen can fit there too. If it's not a fake, it's going to be the best consumer device of the year.

Yes they are fakes, basically, the finger reflections are done incorrectly, not only are they on the wrong angle, better they are far to sharp and prominent.
As well, the perspective is wrong for the boarder around the screen. It is a nice job though, and it's pretty believable at smaller sizes, but when you look at the large links it's pretty obvious that something is not right.
Kudos to the artist regardless, excellent effort. Fuck of a lot better than the last batch that went around.

Are you talking about what looks like a reflection in the screen of the roof above?
If you looks closely at the screen and surrounds of the "iPodAV" you can see tube-like structures reflected in the screen....
Im not saying this is a real object, but damn, if it is fake, whoever put this together has some skills.

You can not see the dust until its inverted.
