a_greer: By the way, it's douche.

    ok.

Well, then you're in need of making a choice, either you can let two bad experiences ruin the rest of your life and sit around being bored, lonely and miserable and try to justify the misery by elevating your sense of self esteem and morality to the point where it will keep you captive and miserable, or you can make a change.

Marc: Well.. I'll admit, you are right. But, I can't help being paranoid about stuff. It's pathetic, and I know I need to "shit or get off the pot" so to speak. It does seem to be time for me to take a leap of faith... I'm too consumed with playing it safe.

    Flick: True that, playa.

While there is some truth to what Marc said, there is also something to be said for caution. If you roam too far out of your comfort zome, you open yourself up for another hurtfull situation: Do not let bad experiances stop you, but by all means, a little prudence never hurts.

Marc: Great, how wonderfully British of you.

a_greer: Sounds good to me. I don't iChat very often, since I often have a choppy connection speed. Maybe it'll behave for a chat.

nuttin to be ashamed of...if they dont lock it and you dont use it to break the law in any way then it is pretty much a deminimus use, like tossing a soda can into a trashcan by the curb in front of someone elses home.

Well, over here littering is a much higher offence...damn hippies

OK, maybe that was a shaky example...let me try again...

it is radio, if without unreasonable modification, you can recive and use a signal, it is just fine...think back to the days of c-band (2-ish meter home satalite dish): US networks like ABC and NBC used this tech to distribute content to affiliates, and (the more interesting element) live sports feeds to home base where the comercials were added; it was perfectly legal (and common amoungst BBS readers) to lock on and watch one of these live event site-feeds...so long as they were not breaking cypher or digi-cypher protections (sidebar: The Indy 500 announce team circa early 1990s had really harsh things to say when the mics were "off")

It is legal to listen to am radio from the other side of the contenent on the rare occasions when the atmosphere can carry it that far...

If the signal is invading your space and it does not have any sort of encryption, have at it, seems to me that it would be legal as long as you dont do anything bad with it...

A lot of geeks (myself included) run open wifi for people like Mac_Doll, folks that have higher priorities than paying$$$ for bandwidth that they will only use ~2HRs/day and cant justify the cost. (Me on the other hand...I get my moneys worth...)

On occasion I will lock the wifi down when I am doing huge file transfers and/or backups and want all bandwidh availible and data encrypted, but other than that...I have no problem sharing; I have 2 PCs on a 6Mbps connection, one laptop surfing AI and iTms will not break by back...

Tell them that they're capitalistic pigs. No, that's not necessarily Communist, it's more like Socialism, and I see nothing really wrong with that. I donate blood regularly, and I do it for free. It's just out of kindness and caring for your fellow human. Most people scoff at it, saying, "You should get paid for it." I do get paid, in gratitude.
