Putting a Conroe in the iMac meens a redesign of the motherboard.
But you can exchange the Yonah in the iMac with a Merom right now.
True but likely Intel will and is helping with mb design. I reiterate that performance should take priority over form factor with this machine. Once it's set up most users will never move it. If it has to be an inch an thicker so be it.
Intel launched a new chipset for desktop computers on Tuesday and vowed to take back market share lost to its main rival, Advanced Micro Devices, by the end of the year.
The P965 Express chipset, formerly code-named Broadwater, will work with Intel?s new Core 2 Duo desktop processor, also known as Conroe, which is due to go on sale next month. The chipset has started shipping in volume to PC makers already, Intel said.
Being that intel, and Apple are doing the motherboard designs in house at intel they have an advantage, but mobo redesign is one thing. I was saying they are probably going to redesign the iMac from ground up along with the rest of their lineup soon if they have not already.
Funny that you insinuate that I'm a US American. I'm typing this from a house in a little village next to Bremen. Maybe you need to stick your prejudices up Roland Koch's behind.
As for that eBay auction, I assume someone's getting a nice C&D letter from Intel soon.

And Intel has an envelope with 35W TDP printed on it. All Meroms went into that.
It has nothing to do with real power usage. Or do you really think a T6500 will use less power than a E6300?
Merom = socket PGA479Y
Conroe = socket LGA775

You can find a T7400 at ebay....

So far I found 1.308V for Conroe (X6800!) and 1.216V for Merom (T7400).
What did you find?
