Is this a new feature, or have I just not been paying attention?

Hi y'all, longtime lurker, firstime poster, love the show, yadayada...
Sean, I seem to remember seeing this capability in QT5, though I never got round to playing with it. It didn't seem enormously difficult to do, but I never saw a need for it. However, I've just this minute thought of one...
I must say, I'm very pleased with my QT6 installation (yes, I saw it before Eugene's post and I was sufficiently selfish to do the download and buy a new key before I told anyone it was out ). Works a treat, does everything I expected and seems to actually run slightly better.
It's a bit irritating to have to get a new Pro key (damn, those menus looked empty!), but, given the amount of stuff I do in Pro that I could spend megabucks on otherwise, I can't grumble too much.
Obviously this means that Wednesday is going to give us iTunes 3 (good spot, Jamie) and a Software Updater for the iPod. And the headache (for me at least) of swapping some 150 CDs through the drives to rip everything in AAC. Still, at least I have a routine now...
Hmm ..maybe it's just my dumb luck, but mine still offers all the feature i had with QT 5 pro. Under get info it doesn't say Pro, but i sitll have all the features.
Oh well i won't complain...maybe it's pure luck!!!!
Thanks for the replies, Overhope and Crawlingparanoia.
Heh, well I guess I wasn't paying attention. I'm somewhat suprised this hasn't been used more frequently, especially on sites with movie trailers, considering how graphic intensive many movie sites are. Although I can see the possibilty for oooogly window abuse, so perhaps it's lack of popularity is a good thing. *grin*
Seems to run well for me. converting avi's to mp4 came out nicely. I wish I had this when I exported all my DV to sorenson3 since the quality of MP4 seems to be better at the same data rate.
We doubt that a final release date will be announced. Negotiations over MPEG-4 licensing fees are still in progress. Look for another demo repeat for the masses who were not as WWDC and QuickTime Live!.

If they were only 40% sure QuickTime 6 would be coming out this week (or a release date), it makes me wonder how accurate they are on the other stuff
I hope they add support for the new codec (sp?) to the iPod firmware, also. If not, I think I'll be disappointed by the oversite. If not this Wednesday, then I still think it will be added eventually. Oh well, I just gave them 30 bucks for Pro. Everything seems good so far. Although, I am a bit peeved that I cannot seem to find the select 6.0 content on their website any longer. *sighs*.

How did the encoding speed compare? Any better than Sorenson, or still glacial go-away-for-the-weekend-it-might-be-finished-when-you-come-back?

If you have QT5 Pro, upgrading to QT6 puts you back in non-Pro status -- no way to get QT5 Pro back. QT6 Pro is another $30.
PS, wonder how long until they realize the QT Pro SN is already out there to be had and change it.

That was a new feature as of QT5.
I may go and play a bit later.

I hope the keynote is mp4.
This could mean that the MWNY stream will be MPEG4.

I would count on that being the reason they released it 2 days early along with the worked out licensing terms.
What better way for them to show off their support for mpeg-4 though than streaming a major event like Macworld.

Turned out really well if you ask me.

"hey man, just go get it?"
"but, is it safe?"
"Yeah, its safe, just make shure you protect yourself."
"I just don't want systems messed up."
"Go GET IT!"
Oh, and it seems to play my simpsons episodes better. Now I just iPod 1.2 (because I only of 4 megabytes left).
Yo. I upgraded and have no complaints. Smooth sailing, fast DL and install, and my upon restart my mac still runs. Yea!

The SN? Remember, every one who purchases QT6 Pro gets a SN. Say 1% of them publicise that. Thats alot of SNs out their.
Took my 4 minutes to find 4 (!) SNs on a site which I won't link to.
There's no anti-piracy in QT Pro except for the simple name/sn system.
