For pics and press releases.

Stranded hair. Woo-hoo.

But...the Mac version will be coming after

Hope it's on Mac Os X. Maybe this will explain the lag between the two versions this time...

Love Poser...had poser 1, 2, 3, 4, Pro Pack...can't wait for version 5!!!

    "it's really just a penis. "

    I agree.

Or to go Dali on you...no, 'It's a picture of a penis...'

Back ON topic (I don't recall posting 'Penis 5' about to ship...)

Surely somebody on Appleinsider has got to be impressed by hair rendering in a sub £400 package?

Looks as good as I've seen from Sasquatch so far...well, almost. Too soon to really tell. But it beats plasticine hair anyday!!!

Rendering has been given a boost (one of Poser's traditional weakspots, apparently...though I found it fairly decent myself...)

Displacement mapping? In Poser? I think that's incredible myself... Plus...Poser now has it's own shaders as well. Pretty nifty.

What's more the model seems to be light years ahead of that included with Poser 4. Unless that's just an eg Michael 2...

Poser has always been an ease to use package. Achieved with it's own idiosyncratic interface.

Linking to the Cinema 4D thread...Poser is able to be hosted in a variety of packages from Lightwave to Maya. What was once seen as a toy is really beginning to give it to higher end apps like Character Studio (those erstwhile Macophobics...)

Yes, Poser 5 will run on OS X. The renderer is doing displacement, raytracing, complex shaders etc and is RenderMan compatible. The model you see in the picture is not Michael 2 but the new Poser 5 guy.

    "Let's keep on topic.

    Anyhoo, back on topic."

Away on big fella. You should be settin' the exampe round here. Shut yer puss and keep on topic yer wee... (darn...word association...wee...links to penis...I think I fell into your trap...no matter...I shall soldier ((damn, again...)) on with dignity...)

"Yes, Poser 5 will run on OS X."

    Ace!!!

    "The renderer is doing displacement,"

Man...and Xsi makes a big deal outta this. Can't wait for displacement mapping in Poser. That's unreal...

    "raytracing,"

That's an exciting development. At this rate of going...you won't have to leave Poser. Golly.

"complex shaders etc and is RenderMan compatible."

Renderman compatible? You're pulling my chain...really? I guess now that Maya can host Poser...now...that is significant.

"The model you see in the picture is not Michael 2 but the new Poser 5 guy."

The new Poser 5 guy? Excellent. He looks even better from that shot than Michael 2.

Any news on whether Poser 5 guy will supercede 'Michael 2' in terms of morphs? Michael 2 is the gold standard at the moment. Excellent model with anatomy/muscle tweak morphs gallore. Can Poser 5 man give the smackdown on Mikey? That would be a WWF!!!

    Der-rool, der-rool.

    I can hardly wait.

"Guess it's time to upgrade my Poser 2. Version 3 and 4 really sucked"

Y'know. I agree with you on that. In fact, I think Poser 2 had the better, quicker and slicker interface! I kinda got lost with 3. It didn't seem as well laid out...er...intuitive.

"Now this version 5 is WHAT I am waiting for."

Who's the daddy, eh? This will be the Poser upgrade to end 'em all.

"This app + Cinema XL 8. I am in heaven "

Agreed. Speaking of which. How do you find Cinema to use? I thought there was Poser hosting in Cinema. You done that yet?

Lightwave 7.5, Zbrush and Poser 5 on X for me. Hmmm. Better upgrade my Photoshop to 7 as well!!!

Wondered how long it would take for Leonis to get in here...

(Liked the raining and sea ripple effects in your computer comic by the way...Surreal storytelling... Working on a 'Computer' comic myself...have to show you some time...)

Who wouldn't take the bait over Poser 5, eh?

    Still drooling...

You know that you can the the Poser 2 UI in Poser 3 and 4 by pressing "P O 2"? It's one of the hidden easter eggs.

The Cinema4D Plugin rocks. You can load .pz3 or .pzz files direcly into Cinema4D, with animation et al.

The plugin is a free download from <a href="http://www.curiouslabs.com"; target="_blank">www.curiouslabs.com</a> - it does require Poser 4 Pro Pack, however.
