Wondered how long it would take for Leonis to get in here..."
Having read some of your other posts and your comic, I thought you may have found this thread interesting
Yeah, you can 'host' poser scenes (and animation now?) in various 3D apps. Not just export a 'stiff' textureless model...but with textures and attributes intact. So, I'm sure you'll be in heaven hosting Poser 5 scenes in Cinema 4D 8!!
Initially, the 'hosting' was just for Max and Lwave...but now...it's Cinema and Maya...Vue...come to think of it...Curious seem to have some kind of Maxxon-esque master plan going down...
"The Cinema4D Plugin rocks. You can load .pz3 or .pzz files direcly into Cinema4D, with animation et al. "
Leonis is now one happy guy...!
Pretty cool, eh?
I've done it with Lightwave. All the textures were intact. Big difference between the Poser and Lightwave render! Seems to work okay. But not extensively at the moment.
The global illumination lighting on Poser hosted scenes in Lightwave looks incredible.
Mind, now that Poser is getting 'Raytrace'...then...why go elsewhere
As for Vue. I think I'm going to buy that on 'X'. It looks like the daddy of landscapers. Lots of functionality. Bryce seems to have lost that crown on the way out of metacreations. Vue seems to have more models and better vegetation...and other neat touches. Plus a less eclectic interface (but, hey, I still like Bryce's interface!) But on the demo version I played with...I can't understand why they don't use Aqua for more of the buttons. Many of them seem unclear like squished flies in blue wine gums. Fine for the windows version but not for the 'X' version!!!
Apparently you can import Poser into Vue now...and ANIMATION also. Textures intact an' all. An eg' of pic on e-onsoftware.com's website.
"You know that you can the the Poser 2 UI in Poser 3 and 4 by pressing "P O 2"? It's one of the hidden easter eggs."
Well......the ESD version is around $200 US , $99-169 US for upgrade depending on the version you have.
I am not too impressed with the app. Version 5 doesn't have the link to other apps (Max, Cinema, LW etc) like what Version 4 Pro pack had
Rendering is still slow ass. God I really hate the Carrara like interface
After "sucessfully" being able to build character from scratch in Cinema (with help from reference models) I don't really see any need to get Poser 5. I still own Poser 3 and may think just let it run under Classic IF I really need to get some figure model out quick
Note: I run Poser 5 (PC version) on my friend's 3GHz P4......
My understanding is that the Firefly rendering engine was licensed from Pixels3d. I know that Leonis knows of them. Others may as well. That explains both the subpixel displacement and why it renders slow.

Hooo.....no wonder why Poser is slow on rendering.
Pixels3D's renderer is one of the slowest rendering engines in the market. Not to mention lack of MP support.

Really, I thought 3D landscaping programs were supposed to be at that speed <img src="graemlins/smokin.gif" border="0" alt="[Chilling]" />
Yeesh, what's taken them so freakin' long?
Heh, they said 'Fall' last year...
Grumble...mumble...etc.
I want Poser 5, Painter 8, an Adobe Design Collection, Vue, MX Studio, Cut Pro, DVD Studio...
Hmmm. Hang on a minute...that's alot of money...
(Scratches head wondering how he's going to pay for it all...)

And don't forget your hardware
As for money.....AFAIK dancing in a strip bar makes some pretty decent money
Hopefully they can be animated without Poser crashing (I could never get animated animals in Poser 3).

S'funny you should say that...
I was thinking about you saying that you maybe might wait for the 2nd 970 revision before taking the bait...
I might have no choice. I'm not that flush with spare cash. It might be a case of 'either/or'...
'Or' selling my body in cheap strip joints or the street corners of Mansfield...

Increasing the bucket size in Firefly Render options (I set mine to 128 ) DRAMATICALLY speeds rendering.
Still, the upgrade was £99 which is prety good.
