Hi Voxy, thanks for your concern. Right now not having a job for about a year. Coping with bipolar disorder, one day at a time. In my "stabilised" state things are okay when I am occupied. Past month I have been helping my parents get ready a property in Brisbane, Australia to sell... And six months before that just getting organised for our trip back to Australia, visas, etc. I have had two or three episodes since coming to Australia once month ago, of kinda "blackout depression" where it is like F*CK Y'ALL, I just go and lie down, babble something like "I'm sick of this sh1t, I don't want to take my medication"... My parents have been fabulous though through this time. But helping them with their Australian affairs - tax, rental property, renovating and selling property, and being with them as they go through retirement, I feel I "pay back" them okay.

Showtime is a very interesting term, in pure American style, "It's... SHOWTIME..!!!" is a great exciting way to start things off - for musicals, TV shows, movies... Apple being very smart marketing people (though the tone is more geared for American/ UK/ English-speaking people), it's like a double-meaning for Showtime. See, Showtime means that It's SHOWTIME for Apple, apple is going to present something exciting. However, the other meaning is SHOWTIME means that there are going to be products related to musicals, TV shows, movies. Since music and TV shows are already out there - the other thing is Movies and some sort of home entertainment related. Something beyond just new iPods.

Also if you look at http://www.sfgate.com/blogs/images/s...ple499x331.jpg

you can see clearly the reference to the spotlights - like a Hollywood Premiere and also notice the 20TH Century Fox Opening scene, that has the spotlights as well.

See the spotlights, compare to Apple Showtime invite picture?

So very strong Hollywood references going on... 8)

HD iPod is simply not possible at this stage. Due to sizes. Home entertainment streaming, new iPods and iPod video, I think all that will target and be marketed as Near-HighDefinition Quality - better than DVD but manageable sizes thanks to H.264...

Can't you call anything 540p and up HD? What's the official HD line?

720p, 1080i and 1080p are HD. 540p would be EDTV if it existed.

Nope. That would be really sly marketing, which Apple has used in http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/.

Apple's "HD" movie trailers are more to official HD standards, offering 720p and 1080p

720P/I and 1080P/I are official HD standards. In so far as resolution - 1280x720p/i and 1920x1080p/i

A lot of what falls between DVD and official HD is a bit of a no-mans land, there's some DVB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DVB) that intertwines with this stuff.

Actually, 720 x 480p is considered hi def by the standards.

Hi def has really become to mean hi density. Meaning that anything that has more data than the standard feild/frame is hi def.

I'm with Chucker, that's EDTV(admittedly a vague term to some degree). Most countries around the world have established HDTV to be the standard of 720p/i and 1080p/i. There are few if any broadcasters trying to pass off 480p/i (NTSC) or 576p/i (PAL) as "HDTV".

By your argument that's why Apple can say "oh it's High Density" so they put HD under their PC/Mac ads. It's sly, and I don't like it. It's a fracking classic example of RDF.

"The Advanced Television Systems Committee is the group that developed the ATSC digital television standard for the United States, also adopted by Canada, Mexico, Taiwan, and South Korea, and being considered by other countries".

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ATSC

    http://www.paradiso-design.net/video...s_en.html#atsc

    http://www.atsc.org

Only 720 and 1080 are considered "HDTV". Apple is using "HD" to it's own purposes in classic RDF style.

I hope they don't introduce a product that is already almost similar on the market!

I guess the iPod Hifi line ends up with 3 konfigurations:

    1. iPod Hifi as we know, maybe with wireless capabilities but without HD.

    2. iPod Hifi Express with build in HD and wireless capabilities.

    3. iPod Hifi Video. Basically an iPod Hifi #2 with Video streaming capabilities

That would be very Apple. A beautyful egosystem around iPod+iTunes.

AppleTV, hmmm,... no. Not very Apple.

I'm still hella confused by Shanmugam's f*king cryptic post.

"Peter North is a personal name that can refer to:

    * Peter North (academic) (Sir Peter North), former principal of Jesus College, Oxford and Vice Chancellor of the University of Oxford

    * Peter North (porn star), the screen name of a pornographic actor

    * Peter John North, Canadian politician

I guess the idea is that shanmugam will be able to download porn movies through iTunes now. Hilarious.

iTunes. Music+Videos. Now with pr0n. Oh, and movies. Hmm... the thing is the Sexyback music video, and most other new music videos these days, all available on iTunesStore, are pretty much lightcore porn anyway ... Keep pr0n away from iTunesStore and daytime TV...! It should be kept to dodgy websites and even more dodgy newsgroups. In the old day half of the excitement besides enjoying the porn itself was tracking it down on the Internet*. Now its a GoogleImage away.

*Oh, also porn channels when at hotels is all good
