Does everyone here use Photoshop?
Coming from the PC world, very few PC users I know user Photoshop. Most use the different hodgepodge of photo editing programs that's available for Windows or whatever that came with their camera, scanner, etc.
Here in the Mac world, it seems everyone uses Photoshop! Wouldn't it be a bit feature-rich for everyday use if you are not in the graphics biz? And where do you guys get it from as I do not want to pay the $$$ for it and don't feel right pirating it? What are other low cost or free alternatives to PS?
Thanks!

But yes, Photoshop has got to be the most pirated software in Macdom.
I know so many PC users that use Photoshop! Like heaps on them!

Perhaps something like the Corel version of Photoshop or perhaps Photoshop elements (????) may be an option but I think the best option would be Graphic Converter its a very good application and allows you to edit and save in what ever format you wish!
<a href="http://www.microfrontier.com/" target="_blank">ColorIt!</a> (Shareware, $49.95)
<a href="http://www.caffeinesoft.com/products/pnh/pnh_index.html" target="_blank">PixelNHance</a> (Freeware)
<a href="http://www.lemkesoft.de/us_gcabout.html" target="_blank">GraphicConverter</a> (Shareware, $35, free updates)
<a href="http://www.macgimp.org" target="_blank">MacGIMP</a> (Freeware, or $29.95 for a CD - requires X Windows)
Also, Adobe offers <a href="http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshopel/main.html" target="_blank">Photoshop Elements</a> (Commercial, $99).
Pricier options:
Deneba's Swiss-army-knife <a href="http://www.deneba.com/products/canvas8/default2.html" target="_blank">Canvas</a> (Commercial, $349.95)
CaffeineSoft's <a href="http://www.caffeinesoft.com/products/tiffany/tiffany_index.html" target="_blank">TIFFany</a> (Shareware, $111 - $444 depending on version)
Stone Design's <a href="http://www.stone.com/Create/Create.html" target="_blank">Create</a> (Timed shareware, $149)
Corel's <a href="http://www3.corel.com/cgi-bin/gx.cgi/AppLogic+FTContentServer?pagename=Corel/Product/Details&id=CC1ZZSACD11" target="_blank">CorelDRAW</a> (Commercial, $399)
[all prices are in US dollars]
I've been a Mac user since 1986, and I've never owned Photoshop. It is true, however, that a lot more Mac users than PC users depend on it, because of the Mac presence in the graphics profession.
Welcome aboard.

I know that some major discounts are available through education pricing. Try checking that out if you are eligible or know someone who is...
All serials have to be checked with a central server. Skipping it is not an option. Apparently, it is impossible to find a serial out there that will work.
I think this will have a major impact on the number of Mac users who run Photoshop.
And no, I do not run Photoshop. Though I always wanted to create the kind of Photoshops you see at SomethingAwful.
I hope someday I'll get 70 billion dollars and be able to use it.
<strong>Adobe seems to have implemented a near-floolproof anti-piracy scheme with version 7.

Give it time you will see a crack out I am sure. Although I have yet to get a PS7 for OSX to work on my computer and I have tried many times, I just gave up I figure if I really want it I will just go buy it.
Talking *about* piracy is okay, but helping other members with piracy is strictly verboten.
Be careful, guys. We're watching.

Um, that's not true

No, it's not the whole Mac world, just the Future Hardware forum

Don't worry about me, I've just always known about the rampant piracy of Photoshop and was surprised to hear that Adobe might actually be able to curtail it after so many years.
"The warezd copy of Photoshop" has become somewhat of a comic cliche in the Mac community.
Pres
I can't even think of any other program that can compete with it today. Maybe Macromedia Fireworks if you're doing only web graphics.
So for what it does I think it's very reasonably priced. Version 6 sucked, used 5.5 until 7 came out and it rocks.

You can also read about it on the Apple site: <a href="http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/imaging_3d/photoretouchpro.html" target="_blank">here</a>

<strong>Actually, there's a new kid on the block and it's called PhotoRetouch. It does colourcorrection/modification and retouchework better than Photoshop, and easier too. Mind you, it's not cheap, but in this case you really get what you pay for.</strong><hr></blockquote>
Good link. What's your experience with it so far?
