Not unless their revenues abroad are based on the US$. My understanding is that they "price-to-market" in the local currency (e.g., pounds in the UK, Euros in Paris etc), and often at higher local prices than in the US. Indeed, given the substantial depreciation of the US$ against currencies such as the pound and the Euro, it could have become more attractive for Apple to open stores abroad!

We have an Apple store up here in Emeryville in one of those weird fake city street malls. The rest of the stores are the usual Williams Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Gap, Banana Republic, Barnes and Noble mix. Plus the inevitable multi-plex anchor.

It's my observation that on any given day at least half of the people shopping there are black or hispanic, some days more than half. Make of that what you will.

They have 147 stores in the US, but zero is practically every country in Europe, it's beyond a joke, Apple is ignoring a retail business nearly as big as its current one.

Apple is the fastest retailer, in the world at the moment, opening 1 store every 9 days. And it's not fast enough for some people? Look, opening a retail store in another country takes time and a hell of a lot of research. You have to set up distribution networks, hire entirely new personnel, plan the perfect site. And I venture it takes at least a year if not more to set up a store, especially in places where Apple does not have a prominent presence.

In fact, Apple is doing the right thing, leading it up to proven retailers in some markets, like Peru, letting them worry about distribution, leasing, hiring, etc. while working with them to provide stores on an equal caliber as its own stores.

Let's see you try and start up a retail chain and spread it across several continents in five years. Many large retailers know they can't pull it off, either because of demand, but probably because of poor marketing, little research and no communication. Do you think there's a reason why Taco Bell failed in Japan? Or that Gateway stores failed so miserably in the US?

Give it time to do it right.

Its replies like these that make people not take you seriously. You just took an informed, rational answer to your question and dismissed it. You come across as a child in your posts, and really add nothing to the conversation around here.
