Interesting... 185degF / 85degC is about the maximum the MacBook Core1/2Duo will allow, fans come on at full at this temp to keep it there. It is also possible that at this temp on the MacBook (both cores loaded close to 100%, the CPU is throttled downwards to prevent temps from going over 185degF/ 85degC... Very interesting that MacBookPro Core2Duo allows that level of heat, or that that level of heat is managed with low fan noise. Load both cores to 100%, leave it for like 15minutes, and let me know that part of things??

Mine is a Core Duo, not a Core 2 Duo. I haven't seen it say above 185 yet, and only after solid 100% on both cores for a few minutes. The Core 2s wont get as hot because default the fan runs faster. Thats why i use smcfancontrol to make the fans spin faster and it never hits 185, can easily keep it 20 degrees cooler. When I have the fans spinning faster than default speeds, I can hear them, if i listen for them, but cannot casually just hear them all the time. On my desk where i normally have it connected up with a KVM i have some ducting and a fan that keeps it down like 145, and the fan doesn't seem to ever run.

Cool. Thanks for info. Just got MacBook back from LCD replacement. Mmmm... new screen.....

Yeah, I'm in a quiet home environment out in the suburbs so that's when I put my ear up close and hear the fans. It's alright, I'm obsessive.
