!! DEfiant it really is a great app... I hit the 130k a second barrier!!! !!! it was awesome... large files downloaded at the max of 15 mins each.... EVERYONE TRY THIS PROGRAM!! you'll never wanna turn back to Limewire or any other Gneutela crap that exists..... trust me.... DC is a keeper...
i can't get this thing to work very well for me. for some reason, even though i've had various folders in different locations assigned as shared, i always show up as with 0 shared files and my file discription defaults to "fdesc". anyone else have this problem?
Hello all. I'm new to the mac, and just downloaded dc. I am able to share and download files, but it seems pretty slow - usually no more than 10-15 kb/s. Is this normal? Is there any way to manipulate the prefs to increase download speeds?
Also, is there any way to search more than one hub at once for particular item? It seems tedious to move from hub to hub in search of something.

This totally depends on whom you connect to. If I use our on-campus hub, I constantly get download rates of 5MB/s and up, but obviously if I go to a public hub and download from someone on dialup or ADSL, it get's much slower. DC itself does not cap the download speed (and also has rather reasonable CPU usage, unlike DCGUI).

If you do a search in DC, it will go be performed on all the hubs you're connected to at that time.

Feature requests?? You DO realize this has been the first release of ANYTHING in 9 months or more from Neo-Modus. The ONLY release of DC was up to 1.0 and then a security fix to 1.025. After that Neo-Modus went practically silent. This isn't a project like anything that you're used to. He's supposedly working on a linux and BeOS version as well. Look for that in another 5 months I bet. If you want added features then I would be prepared to wait a year or so before you get them.
DC just caused me to run out of room on my computer...
i had 3 gigs going into christmas...
in the span of one night i was at 500 MB (i deleted stff, so now im up to 1 gig...)
all MP3s.... best program out there... better then, dare I say it?, HOTLINE AND CARRACHO... why you ask?
YOU DONT HAVE TO JUMP THROUGH HOOPS TO GET ACCESS TO SERVERS
YOU HAVE ACCESS TO EVERYONES FILES THAT ARE ON THE HUB
both are missing from H/l C...
all and all I'm happy with it... now if i could only get it to work up at school (well maybe this is a good thing that it doesn't work at school ...)

If you like DC so much then you should try IRC. Almost everything that hits DC comes from people that got it from IRC or newsgroups.
I just love Carracho. Find everything you want in a short time and all for the mac. ha!

Hotline and Carracho are the crappiest programs. The only way to get anything with these programs is if you know someone who has a private server or such. The same can be said about FTP. So you're going to say that FTP is better just because you know a lot of FTP servers that you can get stuff from? Just because it works for you doesn't mean that everyone else wants to put forth the effort to get 'connections' and be 'in the know' about where to get things.
Hopefully the OSX client will get better and more stable. I'm sure it would help the cause if you guys were to download it and send feedback (bug reports) to Neo Modus.
The JavaDC project died because of lack of interest I'd imagine.
And we definitely need to get an AI hub going. If someone who has good bandwidth (I think it's a constant 30+kb/sec requirement) and windows/linux knowledge would drop me an e-mail maybe we can get something together.

JavaDC came from the ashes of a Visual Basic client. I knew the guys that worked on it and one was a complete asshole. He did unleashed a friend of his on a hub I was hosting to crash it. The other one was never online very much after a while.
I know you've got a nice mp3 collection to share. It must get you into those 40GB and above clubs.

In my hey-day I used to get into the 100GB+ clubs. LOL. All those Swedish warez hubs. For a while the TropiCo and KingSize groups were fighting with each other. KingSize kept complaining that TropiCo dudes were hacking them to crash their hubs.
DC died on me twice last night for no reason. I was only d/l one thing. Wish it was more stable. Other than that it rocks for content.

Even the Windows version isn't too stable. You can't leave it running for more than a few days without needing to restart windows because DC is eating all the memory. That's what John Hess gets for programming a P2P program in Visual Basic. Heh.
My IP keeps getting banned. They're giving me unsupported reasons like "one is enough" after telling me to download as much as I want.

'One is enough' could mean a few things. First, it could mean that you are downloading more than one thing from one person at a time. A lot of people don't like you leeching from them like that. Only download one thing from any one person at a time. You can queue momre than one thing on them, but I don't havea more than one active download connection to s single user a the same time. Second, it could also mean that you are somehow joining the hub twice ( called 'cloning' ).
Well, I connected my ti to my cable modem directly and switched to active mode and it works. More porn than you can shake a stick at (bad pun). Not too bad. Found some stuff I've been looking for for a while (no, not porn. all that is the same, nothing in particular to *look* for there.) Now, why can't I get it to work through airport, I wonder....

Did you try passive mode over airport? Connecting to your cable modem directly means that you are eliminating the airport router. The airport router acts like a firewall. You either have to setup your TiBook as the DMZ host or you have to figure out which ports to route through the router to your TiBook ( 411 and 412 ... I *think* ) if you want to use Active Mode. Otherwise you *will* need to use passive mode.

Perhaps. I just avoid places like that since I only have 30GB of HD space anyway. This is cold, hard file sharing, not some ****ing fuzzy piracy club. At least some hubs feel the other way.

Well, it's *their* hub since *they* own the computer and connection it runs on so they can make it a fuzzy piracy club if they want to. No one is forcing you to go there at knife-point, and if somone is ... they have issues to say the least.

How the fvck did you get it to search/download? I wanna try it out, but I can't DO anything
If you can connect to servers, but your searches turn up nothing even for common searches, then you should use passive mode.
