I'm a guy, and if you pay attention to what other people are doing (or not doing) in men's restroom, you'll think twice before shaking hands with a total stranger.
So you're the pervert. I thought I was being watched.
I can't believe so many people keep coming up with responses like you just need to keep your hands clean or the mouse clean. The point is that with other cheaper, better designed mice, you don't have to and they still work far longer than a Mighty Mouse.

Until the instruction manual for some piece of software tells them to do a right-click and they can't find it. I've never understood why people have a problem with multiple buttons. A keyboard has over 50 but nobody ever gets confused about which one to press.

Get with it, Apple. Your mice have sucked ever since the Puck.
I had banished the puck from memory, thanks for bringing it back. I always remembering it turning round and me wondering where the button had gone.
Why do people like the pill shaped mouse in terms of design? I think it's one of the ugliest mice I've ever seen. It's just a blob. It's like me drawing a square on a piece of paper and calling it art.
it seems overly complicated, but maybe thats just so they cover everything in the patent application, anyway, i don't have to use all the functions and it will be much better than my one button mouse
WOW THIS IS AMAZING. Why hasn't someone thought of that before.
Who said that Apple will ever die? with this degree of vision and innovation, we can expect a lot more from the Company. I think Apple is slowly taking over the word. They are still in their early phase of taking over the world but it doesn't meant that they won't get there.
I can see some potential here, but it sounds like more work to move your hand into pan/scroll postition than just putting your finger on the scroll ball. Maybe it isn't explained well enough why you want these different operation modes instead of having them available at the same time without moving the hand.
Personally, the Mighty Mouse is the best Apple mouse yet, but it still has it's problems as have all Apple mice. They are made to look good, not function well.
I agree in some ways. I personally love the one button mouse, but what I don't like about it is it has no scroll bar -- which I believe could be fixed with a touch sensitive control.
Now on to the design of this new mouse. Until I use it, I will refrain from making comments of a negative tone. However, it sounds interesting nevertheless, and I would like to see pictures/videos of how it works. Like someone all ready mentioned -- it wasn't explained well, so at it's present state it's actually pretty confusing. But, knowing Apple, it will be easy -- we just don't know it yet.

By keeping things simple and intuitive, Apple *IS* putting function over design and form. You can have all the functionality in the world, but if it's not designed well, it's worthless. If Apple took advice about functionality from geeks like us they wouldn't be as good, because they don't design products for geeks like us. They design them for the ordinary person and that's where their strength is.
Actually, my g/f HATES the mighty mouse and I am more of a geek then her, and I love the idea of it...and hate the fact that mine is useless now. I even clean it regular basis, and it STILL managed to be useless. And I HATE how sometimes it wont pick up my second click....it's annoying.

So yea.
When so many people continue to say stuff like this bout the might mouse I often wonder why people keep trying to defend that piece of crap. It's so hard to believe it's made by Apple IMO.
I actually like the Mighty Mouse. Apart from the godawful no-cleaning-allowed habit they have of breaking down every so often and requiring a replacement, the rest of the design appeals to me.
If they could just fix the scroll ball (or allow disassembly/cleaning) I'd be happy

You are right that a steep tilt angle would kill. A little tilt would have to go a long way.
Might be a bit tricky to implement though with some people who pick the mouse up off the table when they run out of space.

The Mighty Mouse sucks. Give me 2 regular buttons and a scroll wheel (up and down only, no lame side tilting) any day.
Agreed Apple needs to take a look at their mouse strategy, or release a multi-touch keyboard that gets rid of the mouse completely.
