I'm a little surprised that only "new case design" is only at 50%. I think it's practically inevitable. The current design is getting pretty long in the tooth.

Steve and Co. have bigger fish to fry this year than a redesign of the Mac line. I think that we will have to wait till SF for that.

I agree. Plus it doesn't seem to me like the right time for such a change, perhaps with Leopard, the time would be right. But on just a random upgrade in the middle of the year, it wouldn't really make much sense.

I don't know why that is such a problem, really. Are you unhappy with the way the current design looks? I still think it's just as beautiful as it was when they first introduced it. I'm a big believer in "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." I'm sure if they do come out with a new case design it will be incredible, but I see nothing wrong with the current one and there's no reason to change something just to change it.
Agreed in full. I'd much prefer Apple invest their R&D money and skills in new hardware *inside* the existing case.
Yeah, that could mean the difference between updated GPUs or not, or true 8-bit displays or not... etc. Because I don't like Apple getting sued... nor do they, I suspect. And GPUs being updated are nice too.
I dont see how its a random upgrade. They are upgrading the chipset(100% sure), displays(75% sure), and GPU (75% sure). I think its a pretty good time to upgrade the case. They pretty much have to upgrade to stay competitive in the notebook market.

When Apple planned this refresh, they expected that Leopard would debut almost simultaneously. Planning things like this happens months (years?) in advance....so Leopard's late release was not a part of the company's strategy.
I wonder if Apple will start using 8 bit LCD's? Perhaps this should have been in the options list as there is a class action lawsuit about the 6 bit displays on the MBP's.
FWIW, I'm ready to buy a new MBP but am waiting for 10.5. Now I'm wondering if I should also wait for 8 bit LCD's.

Keep in mind, too, that they could also introduce displays with LED backlighting. What I wonder is if they're going to go with 8 bit ones while they're at it, or if they're going to stick with the 6-bit ones anyway...
It would be hard for me to believe Apple would update the cases on the MBPs out of the blue... there likely would have been more industry buzz and/or rumours by now about this... However one strong point regarding this; LED screens have been consistently utilized in PC notebooks as not only brighter/longer lasting, but more importantly they allow the notebook to feature a thinner design (see Sony etc.) I believe when we indeed see an LED screen on a MBP (or iMac for that matter), we will see a redesigned case (subtly or not) featuring a thinner profile.

Time to play devil's advocate... Well, they had the designers back, working on the iMac... couldn't they have said, "hey, since we're changing the MacBook Pro case anyways, why not give it a new look while we're at it, working on the iMac?"
At fist I was surprised more Standard RAM wasn't voted higher on that list but then saw it was 2 GB at Apples site. I think I would be better off if Apple put less RAM in the thing, charged a little less, and I fully loaded it with RAM of my choosing. But obviously Apple wont let you downgrade your RAM to less. Although years ago they used to. Maybe they should?

6-bit vs 8-bit LCD monitors - seeing the difference
I want a new 15" MBP case design! The aluminum design has been with us for 4 years already.
I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for an 8-bit LCD. This was from a year ago but appropriate:

Hmmm, didn't know that 6 bit LCD's are over twice as fast as 8 bit LCD's. That's a fact that is definitely worth consideration...
