This is not an update in the same vein as e.g. adding penryn to the entire lineup or changing the form-factor.

See the MacRumors buying guide. (and note that yes, they have updated the MacBook entry.)

Additional Options - Additional Features, call them what you like.

When there is choice of a new processor involved it is an incremental update. You can now choose a 2.6GHz Core 2 Duo processor and a larger hard drive. It's an update. 6 mos.

I'm afraid i haven't stated it clearly the ADAPTERS to be included is what i meant , not cables but yes you're right, one can never know ,you could need a VGA as well so as it is today if you actually need it you can afford it for a spare amount of $.

You're soooo not right ! YEs it is an update - the some-extras-update not a MBP update, and hell a way from smth serious ,.. like Montevina - which could be expected after 6 more months,,.. till than we gotta stick with the stupid Penryns .

Guys, let's not argue over semantics of what's an update and what's not. There are three kinds of changes to an Apple product offering:

    - all new designs, which happen ever few years

e.g. from the TiBook to the aluminium PowerBooks

    - speedbumps where each price point is faster than before, which happen about twice a year

e.g. today's changes to the MacBook, and

    - updated build to order options

e.g. today's changes to the MacBook Pro.

All things considered i think i'll go for the 2.4 15'', anyone know how much depreciation would be, roughly, if i was to sell it in summer for an upgrade? I'm just not sure i can stand vista for much longer.

If you need a SSD buffer you have a perfectly functioning expresscard slot that practically no one uses. You can get a 32GB expresscard SSD for under $600. A 16GB one for less than $200.

2.Maximum battery life - actually 3-4 hours just isn't enough for serious workers .

Buy a second battery or get an ultraportable. The MBP is a pretty hefty machine capability wise and all that sucks power.

    3. stupid normal DVI connector, while the Macbooks have the logical mini DVI.

Because I like messing with dongles I can lose right before a presentation and look like a dork.

4.the macbooks again have these great magnets ,for closing it tight ,. and the MBPs are still left with those stupid hooks .

I'm sure this will get updated the next rev. In any case the stupid hooks still work on my MBP.

And NOW , when it comes to this significant macbook upgrade ... WHERE is the difference between MB and MBP ?!?

The GPU. Are you kidding? The GMA X3100 still sucks for any 3D work especially with Intel's drivers so screwed up. Maybe if they didn't suck it would have been okay. That has been the major difference between the two from day 1.

Looks like they updated features to just about everybody but you.

That doesn't mean the same thing and you know it. The last true update of the MBP was the upgrade to Santa Rosa. This is even less than a processor bump since its just an optional BTO processor bump.

There's no reason not to expect a MBP rev with mobile Penryn. Now is not a good time to buy a MBP if you expect Intel to hold to their schedule.

It just doesn't work that way , even if i had the extra cash.It needs full OS support.. so i guess after Leopard has already popped out... i suppose it could very well happen for us.

You're right , yet changing sucks just the way you get those gadgets lost in the way.

Well yeah , but if you need it ...most people don't .. i guess.

There are folks that have installed Leopard onto an ExpressCard SSD and booted from it. There is a speed up in that mode.

You can certainly use the SSD to speed some things up and no, you don't need readyboost like features to do so.

It would be nice if we could move the sleepimage over to the SSD if the SSD exists.

Riiight. People have been whining about the integrated graphics in the MB since day one.
