Well, I just downloaded 0.1.3 this morning and still no joy on the typing issue. I can't type anywhere! I don't know what the heck is going on. I don't have problems with any other browser on my Powerbook except this one.
I can't wait for more future releases when this hopefully gets fixed. And then when prefs get put in...
I wish I could figure out why you cannot type into the fields, it is quite perplexing. I have been doing it for a while and am feeling guilty every time that I post with it and you cannot. I hope that you will one day download a version that will be good to you and let you type.
Geeze, v. 0.1.3! This is getting a bit weird. I can't even get it downloaded before it is ready to go back and download the new version. Not that I am complaining mind you. This new version is said to be even 5% faster than v.12! Not that you can really say it is snappier but it does seem to be a bit quicker. This thing is going to be so fast one day that I will never to do a thing between sites. I might die of starvation, dehydration, lack of excercise, I might never be able to go to the toilet again! Usually whenever using any browser I could at least take a minuet to do something between web pages but not anymore. Is there a thing as a browser that is too fast? Naaaahhhhhhhh.

Just noticed that on v. 0.1.3 that links that require a new window to pop up work now!! This is very helpful and is going to go a long way to making Chimera the OS X browser of choice! Also the scroll bar is still acting up a bit and sometimes will scroll through the entire page before coming to a halt. Crashes? Nope, not a one in about a full hour of intenive use! Wow!
Well, Odinn thanks for the concern. I wish I knew what the deal was. I'm still gonna download every version that comes out. Seems to be about one version a week now!
Also just noticed that when you customize the toolbar your preferences (or customization if you will ) are now saved and are ready for you next time you launch. Also printing works from the toolbar. I am not sure if this worked before as I did not have to print anything, but it is nice to know if I need to it will be there for me. By the way I have a Desktop pic of my Mac using Chimera over at Resexcellence...
The scrollbar has an odd feel to it, like the scrollbar UI and the page display are slightly disconnected. It's weird. Other than that, the speeds and rendering are great. Now it just needs to be stable and get all those other features(like...prefs?) added in
The scrollbar has an odd feel to it, like the scrollbar UI and the page display are slightly disconnected

...because it is. This probably has something to do with the way Chimera hooks into Gecko. Plus, I understand that he's had to rewrite a whole bunch of stuff to get the contents to blit properly. I don't mind it because its barely noticable (on my DP500).
That said, I just got 0.1.3 (was at 0.1.1) and all I can say is holy poop-on-a-stick! This thing r0x0rs!!
Myself I prefer tabbed browsing in Chimera over Mozilla. It runs a bit quicker and it looks more complete with the full tab across the page. Instead of just floating there above the page. Of course the full aqua color and style of Chimera is just miles ahead of Mozilla's implementation of aqua. But if you read my previous posts you might see that I am a little partial to Chimera.
I don't want to spoil the party but... It doesn't seem to matter which browser we want to use many sites now chuck you off if you are not using a new version of IE. They usually state that it is for security reasons, and the problem is growing. I doubt we are going to be able to abandon IE if this kind of policy keeps up it's present rate of growth.
Many business are now blocking Palm devices in favour of Windows Pocket PC because of the security aspects.

Sounds to me like they just didn't want to pay their programmers to make the site browser independant.
So far I have been very conservative (browser-wise only ) and have stuck with MSIE. It's a known entity and works well for me. But I've been eying alternate browsers for a few days. I finally decided to join the breaking edge and dowload Chimera 0.1.3. I have to admit that I am impressed by the performance of this alpha-stage browser.
I thought that MS had won the browser wars. But it seems there's a new rebel rising on the horizon.
Now if somebody would design a nice icon for Chimera. A "mythical fire-breathing female monster with a lion's head, a goat's body, and a snake's tail" in my dock would kick every other icon's ass!
One more thing. How does the tabbed interface feature work? I intuitively thought it would be to replace multiple browser windows, but it seems I still get new browser windows. So what does that tab do?
Command-N to create a new window, Comand-T to create a new tab. Maybe there'll be a preference for opening links from external apps into a new tab in the future.

Tried 0.1.3 and it was a HUGE improvement over 0.1.1 which crashed within 10 minutes of using it. I browsed all over and tried many things. The tabs work fine, it renders fast fast fast, scrolling the windows are very jerky, you cannot seem to download files (big problem there, must be in the works) and when you quit the application you get the error that it was unexpected when it was not. All in all though, not bad for a brand new web browser. At this rate they should have something fairly polished and usable in about 3-5 months. In fact, if they keep up this rate they could have the next killer browser in 1 years time. Not that they could possibly keep this rate of improvement up. Really good work so far guys!
This is some clean browser! It blends in OSX and has a customisable toolbar working just like the one in the file browser. (I guess/hope custom icons will be a future addition) Only the scrolling seems a tad slow, but hey, its 0.1.3, so Im not criticising.

I just found out that Mozilla 0.9.8 has tabbed browsing too. That was cool. Now if I could just figure out how to make that the default behavior...
