Thanks for the tip but when I tried it I got a kernel panic when it was restarting so I lost my uptime. No big deal thought, as JYD said, it's not important.
You have to actually keep "Internet Explorer" in your "Applications" folder. Took me a while to figure it out. I like my applications sorted by category, and IE was in the 'Internet' folder as well. It would be nice if the updater was able to scan through subfolders in the Application folder. Oh well, maybe that will be added next update?
i'm still on 10.1.2...never updated to 10.1.3 becaused it didn't seem to add anything i needed at the time, and software update still scares me from the os 8 days.....so should i update to 10.1.4 or just stay with pat until 10.2??? g

PLEASE skip 10.1.3!!! i regret installing that.
i will update to 10.1.4 only since i'm trying to overwrite the havoc created by 10.1.3. i should've stuck with 10.1.2 like you did.
anyone's HD get wiped out yet? (just to be on the safe side, i'll update after i finish the norton utilites install. so far, it has already made my imac crash just "checking" the drive. so do ALL of the disk help programs i've tried, including the micromat disk that came with applecare. and it happens in both os 9 and X. ...i wonder if my imac's broken somehow?)
w/ X.1.3, i got a freakin kernel panic everytime i booted into classic. i never had KPs til then, and started getting them all of a sudden at seeminglessly random times. then i figured out it was classic...but dont know why it was doing that. anyone else got this problem? know if the .4 update mightve fixed it? i think ill boot into classic now and see what happens...
i'm waiting on the update for another week minimum . This is just to be on the safe side incase people run into probs with it. So, post any problems you have with it please, cause .3 totally screwed me over and I had to reinstall OSX and now classic won't even startup since then (even though I don't need it). please post your probs
i had some stupid problems with the 10.1.3 update. i started seeing invisible files and moved the mach kernel not knowing what it was!!! somehow, after endless frustration, i narrowly averted a total wipeout. now, after installing the 10.1.4 update, there are no longer just 2 visible mach files in OS 9...there are 4!!! (and maybe a 10.1.5 update will give me 5 different mach files...??? )
also, with 10.1.3, the mouse stopped responding at times. i havent had enough time to check if that's been fixed now.
p.s. can you believe that norton utilities found 2000 errors on my imac??? geez.

Wouldn't it be 6 mach files because it seems like it goes up by 2??

Pay close attention to exactly what those errors are that Norton gives. Norton has been known to hurt more than help with OSX. I remember that an older version reported every '.' file as an error and if you tried fixing them lots of stuff would be borked in OSX. Shoot, when I ran NU back on the public beta, I remember it finding some 16000 errors.

i went to the log and here's what all the errors were:
<<Minor errors were found in the files listed below. The files have creation dates that are inconsistent or outside the expected range.
(15,2,8)>>
i dont know why that happened, but when i first got my imac and crashed OS X 2 days later, i know the date/time was really messed up. it would even say 1900 as the year. zapping the pram a few times everyday finally fixed the problem. and it's been working properly ever since. but maybe that's why the file dates were all weird?

i suppose, if you use that logic, it would be. (LOL, did i mention im a math flunkie?) who knows, there could be 16 next time if it's multiplying by the square.

"Hello. I was hoping that the Mac OS X 10.1.4 update would fix this bug, but it didn't.
If you have a folder called "Data" that contains a folder called, say "MyMovie" and inside "MyMovie" you have a file called "MyMovie" and you try to move the file "MyMovie" to the "Data" Folder" OS X"s Finder will correctly give you an error: The folder "MyMovie" cannot be replaced by an item it contains.
However, if you try moving the file along with other files or folders at the same time, you will receive that error message AND a message stating: Sorry, the operation could not be completed because an unexpected error occurred (Error code 2).
You can either click "Stop" or click "Continue". If you click "Continue", the message will occur again. And if you click "Continue" again, not only will the folder "MyMovie" have been replaced and deleted, the file "MyMovie" will have been deleted as well. I lost a video project this way recently!
It gets worse. If you click "Stop" the first time, you lose both the folder and file. However, if click "Continue" the first time and "Stop" the second time, your file is still there, but the folder has been deleted (along with its contents)!
Strange... all these problems you guys keep having with OS X updates, and I've managed to miss them every single time, on two different computers. My Beige G3 at home just keeps right on a humming after each update, and admittedly, my B/W G4 at the office rarely runs OS X -- but when it does, it seems to be perfectly happy there.
Interesting side note... One of my co-workers accused me of trying to break the OS by the way I was running a dozen different things at once, along with the software updater. Funny; that's the way I work normally... on my Mac's, at least.

Excuse my ignorance, but doesn't XOptimize do it for you?

Most installers do it, and the OS doesn't forget the prebinding later on.
All that manual prebinding (using Terminal or XOptimize) is a waste of time.
EmAn, wanna save ur uptime??

You're right, it is noticebly faster (especially in IE).
