Its espionage time! I want Mac Tablet info now!
Surprisingly enough those spy shots of the iphone 3G we alllllll thought were fake turned out to actually be real. The ones I'm talking about were those pics with the black plastic back that the debunkers swore were actually repainted iphone cases.
But in the end it turned out to be the actual pic of the back of the iphone 3G.
Bottomline, I know you spies are out there. And I have an assignment for you all.
I want you guys to find me or produce for me some spy shots of this rumored tablet like device or devices.
And I don't care how you do it!
Hide out on the apple campus for days on end. Hide inside waste paper baskets. Put on a snorkel and hide inside toilet bowls. Go borrow the predator's semi-cloaking device. Invade the apple campus at night splinter cell style!
Whatever.
I know you people are out there and getting ready to infiltrate and obtain information as ever. I know this because despite the incredible secrecy Apple employed for the WWDC and the iphone 3G, spy info still got out.
Now I want you guys to start focusing on what events and products will be coming out after the July 11th iphone 3G launch going toward the end of the year. On the top of the list would be Apple's plans for multi-touch in new products especially in tablet like devices. Forget about MacWorld 09 for the moment though. Just look at the second half of 08.
So go forth my minions, my shadow warriors! Go forth and do the bidding of thy master!

To be honest, I don't really see the point of a tablet that's too big to fit in your pocket and too small to be a fully functional laptop...
Doesn't matter. I don't see the point of desktop computers given the power and speed of current laptops.
Put up a reward. That'll produce results.
Nah see, that is the beauty of being able to harvest from a large international pool of mac fanboys. There is a number of them out there that would do this just to do it. Heck, they would invest their own money into their intel gathering activities.
Here is my theory. For the mac tablet to work there would have to be a breakthrough on the hardware component side of things. They need a hardware solution to the problem of needing a larger screen but still being able to put the device in a pocket.
I suspect a breakthrough has already been made (flexible screen?) and is mature enough to be developed into a product.
I think it is already being tested in secret and going to debut late this year. It would probably be a debut along the lines of the macbook air. A niche type of device that will unexpectedly be a hit just like the mackbook air was.
Now y'all grab ya Mission Impossible infiltration gear and ya cameras and start scouring the earth for some hard evidence!

Larger screens. Bigger Hard Drives. To start with
There is already four threads on this subject on the first page Olternaut WTF?
If I lived there, I'd take MY cardboard box and do it myself.
MGS4 just came out. I'm sure Snake would be up for the challenge.

Yeah, but 'they' might not let you out until you sign a NDA?
And here is that other tablet thread I said someone would throw up again.

Actually, this isn't directly a thread concerning the mac tablet even though that is what I'm interested in. This is a thread requesting that tech spies make an increased effort into finding out what is going on at apple concerning long or short term product release plans.
If, through investingating possible tablet info they come across some other type of product that is coming soon then heck.......I'm sure we will all want to know about it!

This should be in the "Temporary/Permanent Insanity" section.
For someone who doesn't believe Apple fully understands multitouch, you sure want them to built ASAP a Mac Tablet.
Frankly, even Apple doesn't fully understand what multitouch is! Since Apple bought out fingerworks, they have been implementing Fingerwork's tech one feature at a time and I believe they are still even now learning what to do with it. Otherwise they would have figured out how to do cut and paste on the iphone already.

Hey, insanity section? I would actually be ok with that.
Now about Apple and multi-touch. I must say at the very least Steve Jobs and apple and co. was smart enough to realize the potential of fingerworks company and their tech. Thats why they bought the company.
See, Steve Jobs doesn't have to understand the tech of others down to the actual inner workings to understand how the technology might be properly applied in innovative products.
With the multitouch now, thing is they did not want to outright change fundamentally how regular touchpads worked in their notebooks and they only wanted some of the multitouch features in the iphone.
By only using some of the multitouch gestures for the iphone and modifying the existing ones for limited muiltouch on the notebooks they have made problems for themselves.
This is the main reason we don't see cut and paste in the iphone yet. They don't know how to implement it yet. Instead of using the exact fingerworks gestures apple is trying to come up with their own and they still haven't figured out what they want to do for cut and paste.
And as for notebooks, I think Steve should just give macbooks all of the fingerworks gestures as originally designed and have users learn from scratch. That would save them trouble in the long run as they release new products.
Anyone who owns and use a fingerworks gesture pad would know exactly what I am talking about.
You know there's a strong possibility that there will never be a Mac tablet.
No, I not buying that. There are always possibilities, but I don't think it's a strong one.

Why, at what size (for you) does a tablet become too small to be to be fully functional?
Larger screens. Bigger Hard Drives. To start with
It's all about screen size and horsepower, but mostly screen size.

Actually from what I understand this had nothing to do with Steve. The iPhone is multi-touch because the team that was doing R&D on a new type of tablet interface suggested to Steve this would make a great interface for a smaller phone, a.k.a. the iPhone.
This is the main reason we don't see cut and paste in the iphone yet. They don't know how to implement it yet. Instead of using the exact fingerworks gestures apple is trying to come up with their own and they still haven't figured out what they want to do for cut and paste.
I don't know if I agree that they haven't figured out that yet, I think they have. I think they are waiting to announce the Mac touch and the full OS X multi-touch UI before they will add copy and paste to the iPhone. Steve can be odd that way he works. I think they have already figured that out, for text I have.

Apple's new notebook they release in the next two months will be like the Air in many regards. Teardrop profile, larger MT trackpad with gestures, black chick-let keyboard on the Pro model etc.
The Pro model they release mid to late next year will be a convertible IMO.

Yes but our forum speculations have absolutely no bearing on what Apple may or may not produce.

Less conjecture more splinter cell style espionage! So who is going to volunteer to get a job at Apple as a toilet cleaner? A lowly janitor type job would be a perfect way to infiltrate. And acting like a special needs kid wouldn't hurt either....you would be less suspicious that way. Remember Edward Norton's character in Heist?
Larger screens. Bigger Hard Drives. To start with
Also *faster* and *more* HDs, *more* screens. *Alot* more cores and ram!
Also, cna I just say, after getting an iPod touch, I'm drooling at the idea of a fullsize tablet!
