    About iPhone/iPod Touch size?!

That's why I want a range of slate tablet sizes from Apple, screen sizes starting @ 8" and going up to 17"?

The 8" model would be the size of a regular DVD case, which is about the size of the ubiquitous Star Trek: Next Gen handheld tablets?

Larger sizes, think the tablets they tote around on Stargate: Atlantis?

Yes. I think something around that size would be perfect too. I heard rumors that there might be a special event before september. This WWDC just turned out to really be more about iphone software (which I admit was very hot) and only a refresh of the iphone hardware.

    Yes thats right.....a refresh.

From what I saw of the WWDC it would seem the specs for the iphone 3G was done months ago. Even though analysts and fanboys were dreaming their hearts away about this feature or that it would seem Steve Jobs and co. had already made up their minds. The people wanted 3G....so we gave it to em. We were lucky they threw in GPS as well.

No iphone nano. No super large iphone. No large range of colors. No video conferencing.

    Heck, no cut and paste!!

I think the real action will be later in the year as they start to debut more products with the multi-touch technology. I think the action is going to be at the back to school events coming soon. Perhaps among those new macbooks and such we will see a tablet with no voice capabilities but only wireless data? That would mean Wi-Fi yes for sure but I think they would give us a special deal with AT&T so we can pay for a data plan without voice for it.

    What do you think?

There is already four threads on this subject on the first page Olternaut WTF?

A thread about Steve Jobs' health and a thread about Steve Jobs' attire for the next keynote are both threads about Steve Jobs. There is, however, a slight difference in the import of the content.

And yes, frivolous threads shall continue to spawn like wabbits. We should all be used to this by now.

What I don't get is those spies who post pics on the web....why don't they comment more on forums like these? Are they afraid Apple would trace the ip somewhere they could be traced so assassins could take them out?

Apple has traditionally used some very underhanded (but effective) methods to prevent leaks. There are stories of the higherups feeding information about non-existent projects to suspected leakers to see if the story makes it out. Real projects may bare multiple code names, different for each group that is working on them. Lots of ways to do it. The bottom line is that Apple is very good at rooting out the leaks and takes them very seriously. Unless I'm mistaken, they tend to refer any verified leakers to the judicial system for prosecution under industrial espionage laws. They don't play around. So when someone DOES leak information, they have to be very very careful about how they came by it, how many people know the same details they know, etc, etc, etc. So, if lawyers are assassins, then yes, they most certainly are afraid of the assassins.

Yeah those ninja lawyers can screw you up real bad. \

Seriously though, what about those iphone 3G spy shots that made it out that turned out to be the real deal?

Those weren't some leaked story those were some cold hard photographs.

We can have good guesses though, educated guesses. Like when we basically knew they were making a phone, it was obvious.

Similarly we know they'll make a TV (well I do anyway), it's obvious. However we can debate what it will have or what it might look like. Though it will be a TV. Multi-touch is too good a thing not to take advantage of, and seeing that the iPhone is a result of tablet research it's not too difficult to start believe that one.

That pretty much sums it up, if you want to speculate on tablets look at all things ATOM related. Now I know you want real spy stuff but the quality of such is always in question. The thing is ATOM is likely the best engine out there right now for a sizeable tablet. So developments that crop up in relation to that chip are of high interest.

As a side note there has been recent reports on Intel's on chip DRAM technology. This could be indication of where they are going with respect to ATOM SoC's. Depending on what you are looking for Intel may be able to deliver "real soon now" ATOMs with all the built in DRAM needed for some classes of hand-held devices.

The other issue with Tablets is that there are just to many ideas floating around on the net that aren't viable no matter how far multi-touch comes along. I still maintain that Apple would have the largest chance of success in a tablet if they simple targeted a larger iPod Touch. I just don't see the potential in a laptop sized replacement. The main issue is that if you need a laptop sized device you likely need a keyboard too.

I'm inclined to agree on this point rather vehemently.

What kind of reasoning is that? I don't get what your saying. You don't understand desktops that are faster than Laptops? Isn't that the point? I love my Mac Pro. You try playing Crysis on your laptop. Ain't gonna happen.
