Duh-If that's not the iMac calling the MacBook aluminum.

You post a reply here from your "elitist cellphone" stating "Then are you probably the only one on these forums that has never used an electronic stylus scribe your signature."

as if you know what everyone's needs and wants are on this forum and that we all use a stylus? HA!

You are the one who is claiming that it is not needed, I only pointed out the ubiquitousness of the electronic stylus to sign your name would probably make you the only person on this forum to have not used one.

Dude - just because your stylus possesses it own ubiquitousness in your every day life does not mean that every person on this forum has come in contact with it on any other one.

The hands in pictures 2 and 3 appear irreparably crippled.

    I'm just sayin'.

I can type 70-80wpm and without looking at the screen. Can you write more than 25wpm without looking and keep the writing from crawling up or down as you write left to right?

I would hope that this "undiluted" version includes scroll bars in windows. While flicking your finger on the screen or turning a virtual scroll wheel looks cool, there is one problem. When scrolling through long lists, you have to flick the screen or roll the wheel multiple times. Even with accelerated scrolling, where the length of scrolling increases, it still requires flicking or rolling multiple times. Scrolling through long web pages or emails on the iPhone often gets annoying. A scroll bar allows you to scroll through the entire contents of the window in a single stroke. It also allows you to jump to different points in a document by clicking in the empty scroll area.

With that said, the other issue would be whether to have scroll bars that are always visible, or to have them appear only when you touch the edges of the window.

Is it just me, or is tablets just so uninspiring? The demos I see for multi-touch displays have the guy tossing things around like a mad man - just because you can, doesn't make it useful. After a day of that, it gets down to the way you actually use a product.

My stylus? You need to learn to read a little more comprehensively.

The OP wrote, "For it to be really useful for real applications they need to add in some form of stylus to give the user more exacting control and ease data entry via handwriting recognition." You yammered on with "Who needs a pen for signatures for a computer no less a handheld?" I pointed out that they are in use everyday through the world and that if you have never used one then you are probably the only one on this board.

Does the image below look familiar in any way, shape or form? If you have never signed your name like that to receive a postal shipment or to buy an item with a Visa or MC then you probably live in a small wooden shack and have the surname Kaczynski.

You know, I worry about the usability of products designed for such horribly deformed hands!!!

I'm sorry, but I've said it time and time again on this forum. STYLUSES ARE BETTER THAN FINGERS! I know Apple wants to make computing accessible to everyone, but the computer at least needs a USB port so I can plug in a stylus. If you want to do detailed work in any field that requires drawing, one needs a stylus. I know that touchscreen computing will be a big revolution and will make most things so much more easy, and I know that Apple hasn't mentioned anything about styluses in these patents yet. I can also understand that because the iPhone is mostly a consumer device, it really does not need stylus input. However, us creative professionals are going to need something besides our fingers to do work on a screen like that on Apple's upcoming computers. Otherwise, I would have to do a ridiculous amount of zooming in and out to just to a square inch of a Photoshop piece.

Needless to say, if you want to use Photoshop you'll get a more powerful computer than a little 10" tablet.

This tablet will be good for hospitals, schools (i.e. all your text books), a great couch computer, and a great business tablet for those who want to do "some" work on the move. You'll sync and go. Despite how much you want it, this tablet (the Mac touch) won't be meant for photoshop. Those folks who require a "large" desktop screen and computer, will still require it.

Wouldn't you love to get a glimpse of test designs in the Apple Lab? That would be fun.

Hey! as long as we have alphabets, and don't go back to caveman drawings...it is handy to partition the alphabet into distinct keys, keyboards make at least some sense, and likely much! Ironically, I imagine qwerty keyboards actually help spelling recognition. Perhaps instead of dvorak or qwerty, they will design a hybrid that will aid spelling correction and ergonomics/speed.

My only knock against keyboards is indirect...it's hard to lose fingers, and don't need recharging? Although they are suspect to repetitive stress disorders.

You're an arse. I said " for a computer" and the handheld meaning the item discussed on the thread. Previously I stated you must be a check out person with a handheld at Apple but that was an unintended insult to Apple employees. Now I realize you must work for FedEx. '

And next time send an even larger image to clog everyone's screen. Do you enjoy combatting people everyday on here? it's always something or another.

You also purposely omitted the orginal question and response only so you can start a conlict.

Someone stated that it (the new device) needs a stylus and I simply stated Why?- the iPhone does not need one -why should this. Why do you not mention this?

Good God, I hate this grammatical atrocity for the sake of political correctness. If you don't want to say "his", write around it, don't just shrug your shoulders and say, "Oh, well." That, traditionally, is the Microsoft way, not the Apple way.
