Funny thing: Quite a few people said the same thing about Apple making a cell phone. "Apple is a computer company, not a cell phone company," they insisted.
Not me. It seemed like they'd HAVE to at some point if they wanted to continue with music players. I don't know how many non-iPods are sold now but most people I see are either using an iPod or their phone for music now. I think I've been pretty consistently saying that too. The SE Walkman phones were as good as if not better than their actual walkmans some years back already.

I still think it's a little odd they came up with such a huge yet thin laptop. I was waiting for a sub-notebook - a lighter, smaller 12" iBook/Powerbook replacement but what we got was a normal sized laptop, just thinner - very underwhelming. Were people really crying out for thin? It's a nice laptop, don't get me wrong, but I don't see why you'd buy that instead of a MacBook other than just pose value. I wanted something more like one of the now quite common 8.9" screen size laptops such as those from Acer, Asus and even HP.

That one was out of left field and still is. IMHO it's got three problems they need to fix
1) Drop the price in the UK like they did in the USA - it's still at the launch price here.
2) Add a DVD player so I can remove a box from under the TV.
3) Add a tuner/PVR.
They're not terribly complex things.

Edit: Did a quick search and couldn't find your stances on those, but you were rather vehemently certain in 2006 that there would not be a video iPod, especially since you wrote there was no content for it. I think we all know how that turned out, now that all iPods are video-capable and there's lots of video content on the iTunes store.
I can't remember posting anything of the sort but please link to it if you can.
Also note that here in the UK we didn't get video content until much later than the USA. It's been pretty much just music videos until this year when they've started more aggressively expanding the content.
Yeah, whatever happened to that filing about putting a bunch of tiny iSight cameras between the pixels of the screen?
Then again, maybe that's what's keeping the new displays...
That idea doesn't seem practical. A better quality camera at the top makes much more sense and would be cheaper. Now, if those cameras were there only to detect interaction on the screen then it might make sense, but I think that capacitance touchscreens might be more reliable and faster.
I think HP recently released a Media Center TV that uses an optical method for its touchscreen.
I feel Applet Tablet is going to be a huge hit. Apple Tablet may be launched this Christmas or possibly as early as September and might cost $800.00 with Verizon as the carrier. I hope this will be another great rally for apple earnings. I will buy one of this for sure. I am a great fan of apple product so started collecting all the information (more than 200 sites) about Apple Tablet(News, Videos, Pics, Pre reviews, Rumors etc.,). If you are interested take a look at the below link
*sigh* As much as I've wished for it I think the smart money says macworld 09. Because of intel being late with their chips I think Apple has been put into the position of releasing their new ipods and new macbooks at or near the same time....most likely in September. They simply do not have the time to release their brand new wonder product this year.
Even if they incorporate a glass trackpad into their macbooks that still will not be the "macbook touch" or "iTablet" that the rumors are talking about.
The rest of 2008 for Apple will be exciting but it will not be about the tablet. That will be January. Does anyone agree?
One thing about zombie threads in the future hardware forum is you get to see prior predictions.
Nope...no tablets at MacWorld 09. I guess the smart money lost out on that one.
We'll see if they ship in 2009 at all. Maybe...maybe not. Hopefully not a slate but a convertible netbook.

Why would I want to use a touch screen with on a large, 1080p display when a mouse is far more effective, more precise, and quicker?
Keep touch-screens where they belong, on iPods, some phones, and for business folks who actually need them.
?all iPods are video-capable?
I must have missed the update that gave the iPod Shuffle video capability?
Then again, maybe that's what's keeping the new displays...
